Dear Theophilus,
How pleased I was to hear from youand to learn that your grandchildren (plus a number of their friends) enjoyed my stories about the apostle Paul, as seen by some of the young people who knew him. Yes, you certainly are welcome to have scribes make copies of We Knew Paul, so that the stories can be more widely shared.
Now you'll see I have sent you, with this letter, a surprise. As you well know, before I wrote to you about the spread of the gospel (in Acts of the Apostles), I had collected stories about Jesus from a wide variety of sources. I gathered as many writings and reminiscences as I could from those who had known Jesus personally, in order to tell you about his life (in the Gospel of Luke). Recently I went through all this material again and sorted out some reports from young people. These accounts they had either written themselves, or I and my research helpers wrote them down
