When Valerie and Euans car breaks down in remote countryside near the Antonine Wall they have a problem. With their mobiles left at home and an evening out arranged in Glasgow, they have to find help fast.

This comes in the form of Petey and Ida and their twenty-year-old daughter Christine, a farming family who live and breathe the history and traditions of the small area of earth theyve made their home. Dark Earth premiered at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh, in July 2003.

Im still looking. If this map would fucking work Valerie Wheres the wall from here? Is it marked on there? Put it down on the ground. Euan Make it easier, wouldnt it? The E road were on. The fucking F, G, H, I road were on. This goat track of a road. Valerie We were driving east, werent we? East / Euan I should just leave the car there leave it to rot there, fucking useless piece of junk. Valerie Weve never had a problem with it before.
