They are not Sikhs. Those who terrorize & killed innocent people cannot be Sikhs. Terrorism is not part of the Sikh religion. Sikhismgrew because, large sections of the population were terrorized bythe Mughals, places of worship were being destroyed.

Fighting terrorism is an abiding concept of Sikhism and so I have no remorse about anything I have done in Punjab. I am a devoutSikh and a proud Punjabi.

INTRODUCTION

Punjab has given us many Heros, Legends, Warriors to name a few Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Udham Singh, Maharaja Ranjit Singh and many more have done significant works for the betterment of Punjab and our nation. It is a state where manylegends were born who fought for the nation and for whom the nation was before anything else in their lives. They died for the nation fighting for its freedom and became a legend.

For their sacrifices, they were titled as the Pride of Punjab. But there was one Hero from Punjab, who had the same passion and sacrificed a lot for his nation but he was called a butcher. He was KPS Gill.

In 1988, Punjab witnessed a new Hero, a Lionheart, a victor, a person for whom nothing was more important than his nation, a one-man army who not only stopped but vanished terrorism in Punjab, his no-nonsense style of functioning, earned him the sobriquet

'1ST SUPERCOP OF INDIA''COP OF THE MILLENNIUM'Honored with India's fourth-highest civilian honor, Padma Shri award in 1989 for his work in the civil service.

PM Narendra Modi, Late Mr. Vilas Rao Deshmukh, Captain Amrinder Singh, Called him as A True Patriot. In-spite of such degrees of honor by the Indian Government there were few Human Rights Activists, Opportunist Politicians and people fromdifferent communities, who have titled him as a Butcher of Punjab.

They considered him as a killer of Sikhs and a shame to the Sikh Community. This was the irony of his life.So what was the truth? Was he a Butcher or a Supercop?
IDEOLOGY OF SHAHEED BHAGAT SINGH
KAUMI EKTA ZINDABAD

Bhagat Singh wrote, "That religion should be separated frompolitics because it does not allow people to work together for a common cause. When religion was not an issue all Indians hadunited for the cause of revolution to fight the British then.

This is a beautiful way to cure the malaise of communal violence. Even though we have different religious beliefs, if we separate religion from politics we all can stand together in the matter of politics and national cause. We hope that the true sympathizers of India will think over our solutions and will save India fromfollowing the path of self-destruction.

Such was the ideology of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and he is our National Hero, pride for all, be it Sikh or Hindu, but when KPSGill implemented the same ideology in Punjab to curb terrorism. He was Called Butcher, Why?

Gill Succeeded where everyone else failed, because of his never gave up attitude. Like Bhagat Singh, he also didnt want that hiscountry should be divided. He was just trying to avoid PunjabsSeparation from India and to defeat the terrorism in Punjab, Mr. Gill took the steps that were necessary and essential. But then why is Bhagat Singh called as a True Patriot and KPS Gill as a Butcher, Why?

Why did terrorism rise in Punjab? Why were innocent people killed?Whatwasthe reason behindthe angstin Sikhsthattheydemanded an independent State Khalistan? What was the scenario of Punjab before Gill was made the DGP there? What made a beautiful and developed Punjab into a Militant andterrorist zone?To know the answers to these questions, lets try to find out whathad happened in Punjab?
BACK STORY & ROOT CAUSE

The phenomenon of Khalistan has been there ever since the partition of this subcontinent into India and Pakistan. At the time of Independence, or just before, there was a significant number of people among the young Akali workers and junior leaders whothought that the time for a Sikh state had come since the countrywasbeingdivided. The British hadencouragedthisline of thinking.

Fortunately, the older generation of Sikh leaders in their wisdomdecided not to fall in with the designs of the British rulers and tocast their lot with India.

Problems in Punjab existed since before Independence. Some of the other incidents used to take place, as Sikhs their wantedKhalistan for a long while. but the event that instigated the Khalistan movement and gave rise to terrorism began in the year 1977.

In 1977, Congress lost the elections in Lok Sabha as well asVidhan Sabha. Prakash Singh Badal became the CM of Punjableadingthe Akali Dal Party. Congressdecidedtohave an opponent to the Akali Dal Party and have a communal leader of their own from Punjab, who can stand against the communal party Akali Dal.

So, Giani Jail Singh and Darbara Singh called 3 people in Delhi and introduced them to Mr. Sanjay Gandhi, he then choosesJathedaar Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was a leader of the Sikh organization Damdami Taksal.

Congress party supported Bhindranwale in a bid to split the Sikh votesandweaken the Akali Dal, itschief rival in Punjab.Congress gave him all their support and powers which helpedBhindranwale to rise in Punjab.

CLASH BETWEEN NIRANKARI'S & SIKHSLED BY BHINDRANWALE
BAISAKHI - 13TH APRIL 1978

On 13 April 1978, The Baisakhi day to celebrate the birth of Khalsa, a peaceful Sant Nirankari convention headed by their leader Gurbachan Singh was organized in Amritsar, with permission fromthe Akali state government. The practicesof "SantNirankaris" sect of Nirankaris were considered as heretics by the orthodox Sikhism expounded by Bhindranwale.

From Golden Temple premises, Bhindranwale delivered an angrysermon in which he declaredthathe wouldnotallow thisconvention and would go there and cut them to pieces.
