Dedication
This book is dedicated to my beloved father Terry Currie senior 1938 2008
Also, free Kevin Lane and Ian McAteer!
And for all the great men and women who have given and are still giving their bodies and minds for our country!
Acknowledgments
These are all good, staunch men who at some time or other have played a role in my life so far. However, the fact that I have friends who are villains does not make me one, just as I have friends who are bricklayers but I have never built a wall. These men also have a lot more skills than their reputations sometimes suggest. Some of my pals though, did not want to be mentioned and I have honoured that. If people took the time to learn rather than judge, they would find a great many gentlemen here.
Thank you, in no particular order to: My family, Chris Cowlin at Apex Publishing Ltd, Charlie Richardson (who I claim as my step dad and he claims me as his step son! Ha!), Chris Lambrianou, Freddie Foreman, Wilf Pine, Ronnie Knight, John Knight, Paul Knight, Ronnie Biggs, Howard Marks, Roy Pretty Boy Shaw, Carlton Leach, Big Albert Chapman, Johnny Nash, Vic Dark, Jimmy Tibbs, Bruce Reynolds, Greg Steen, Welsh Bernie Davies, Charlie Bronson, Ronnie Field, Ronnie Easterbrook, Harry Roberts, Ricky English, Ray Mills, Bill Hicks, Anthony Thomas, Juggy, Stilks, Kenny Noye, Bertie Coster, Charlie Breaker, Jamie OKeefe, Norman Parker, Kevin Lane and Ian McAteer (both innocent political prisoners) Gary Shaw, Liam and Yvette, Mike Gray, Jason Mariner, Nightmare, Joey Pyle jnr, Mitch Pyle, Alan Mortlock, Terry Sabini, Alfie Hutchinson, Brian Smyth, Steve Holdsworth, Mike Biggs, Paul Massey, Paul Ferris, Cass Pennant, Red Menzies, Greg Foreman, Jamie Foreman, Buddy Bill Cooper, Micky Dunn, Cliff Field, Johnny Waldron, Phil Goodson, Brian Hall, Billy Cribb, Jimmy Lambrianou, Terry Smith, Razor Smith, Gypsy Joe Smith, Jimmy On the Cobbles Stockin, Wally Stockin, Billy Smith, Johnny King of the Gypsies Frankham, Bobby Frankham, Les Stevens and all the decent gypsy lads, John Bleakney, Nosher Powell, Harry Starbuck, Terry Stone, DC, Max Lacovou, Mal Vango, the Bowers family, Mr T, Lee Richardson, Dennis Arif, Sean Scott, Tony Currie, Stan Bowles, Rodney Marsh and all at QPR, and the great Lennox Lewis.
And there are also a few ladies, apart from my family, who have been just as good friends I can assure you they are in an elite club of very special women: Veronica Richardson, Eira Peterson, Janice Foreman, Ann Leach, Helen and Wendy Lambrianou, Ros Pine, Lynda Nash, Christine Smith, Jemma (Razors), Joanne Bleakney.
Finally, may these people of honour rest in peace: Tel Currie snr, Joey Pyle snr, Harry and Rosina Shaw, Ronnie and Danny Currie, my special mate Lee Richardson, Johnny Nash, Kevin Finnegan, Freddie Sansom, Tony Lambrianou, Ronnie, Reggie and Charlie Kray. Buster Edwards, Charlie Wilson, Ronnie Bender, Lenny McLean, Tiger and Edwin Thomas and George Best.
Just to lighten things up... Bertie Smalls is also dead ha ha!
Foreword
By Roy Shaw
I have known Tel Currie for over 10 years and we have been extremely close and trusted friends ever since. This book hits harder than some of my opponents!
Telboy, as I call him, is like my right hand man and is respected by all the chaps. He is also extremely close to Charlie Richardson, Ronnie & John Knight, Freddie Foreman, Carlton Leach, Alfie Hutchinson, Albert Chapman and loads of others. In fact, it would take all day to write all of his contacts, he is very well connected. He was also great friends with my best friend of all time, the main man or Boss Joey Pyle snr and you really had to come recommended to be in Joes company let alone a trusted friend of the man, we all miss him. Me and Telboy also visit Ronnie Biggs together and what they are doing to him is disgusting, what do they want blood? Probably yes! Both me and Telboy keep in touch with a lot of the proper lads inside. I have no need to go into anything because its all in this book.
Im glad Telboys written this book and cant see how it can fail, he has seen it all you know, things you would not believe!
Telboy is young, only in his 30s but he is definitely old school and has the morals, principles and values of the older chaps. He is not flash, he is polite, a gentleman (especially around ladies) and good company. One thing that shows how much I trust him is the fact that I would tell him anything and know it will go no further. This book is the complete truth and covers so many subjects. Telboy also goes well out of his way to help people and has in all the years I have known him. Problem is some people dont like being told the truth and Telboy is always honest with the chaps. Some dont appreciate how much he has sacrificed himself for them and gets no thanks back! (I can think of two or three now!)
Most of the faces will have a story where he helped them. He has trained fighters, worked the toughest doors, fought some tough men, put on his own boxing shows, brought people together, punched the wrong uns and if his temper snaps its serious trouble!
He is tolerant and never looks for a fight, in fact he would rather avoid one but if you do get him to breaking point, he can be very brutal!
This is one of the last books out there worth reading. I dont read much but loved this book and so will you. Im not one for writing loads so be lucky, enjoy the book and welcome to our world!
Good Luck! Roy Shaw
Introduction
To most people, unlicensed boxing and bare knuckle fighting are full of mystery. Many think unlicensed boxing is illegal and only takes place in far out well hidden places. Thats the case in bare knuckle or on the cobbles, but unlicensed is 100% legal with rules and regulations including gloves.
Men like Roy Pretty Boy Shaw and Lenny McLean are now well known, thanks in no small part to their best selling autobiographies. But the myths, rumours and complete lies that surround their stories are plentiful!
