CHAPTER 1
Get out and start looking. You know what I want, the woman told the teenaged boy.
Not responding to the woman, Ben clamored out of the gray, nondescript SUV that Margaret had parked around the corner, out of sight. It was where she always parked. It was unobtrusive, yet accessible. Just the right spot for her malicious plans.
The day was bright and sunny, with just a few wispy clouds drifting above. The perfect day for a parade. And as far as Margaret was concerned, the perfect day for a hunt. It was one of those days where people were out and about, enjoying the tepid weather. Unfortunately, they also tended to lower their defenses, not paying much attention to those around themand the evil so close by.
Scanning the crowd, it didnt take long before Bens eyes rested on the young boy. He was about the right age, with blond hair, cute little thing. Exactly what Margaret was looking for. Hesitating, he continued walking around, checking out the crowd, but keeping one eye on the boy. He knew better than to lose track of him. That would anger Margaret, and angering her was the worst possible thing he could do. A mistake like that could be deadly.
Ben hoped that he wouldnt have to do what they were there to do. He knew that was a pipe dream though. He knew they wouldnt be leaving the crowded parade without the days spoils. They never did. He wondered why they always came here, to this particular parade. There were parades and large gatherings all over the country. So why here?
It seemed highly dangerous to him to always go to the same place. Scanning the nearby buildings, he didnt see any security cameras, which surprised him. Didnt everyone have cameras these days? Perhaps Margaret was aware of the lack of cameras, which was why this parade was her favorite hunting ground.
Ben glanced at Margaret across the crowd. He locked eyes with her determined stare, knowing that he had better get on with it. There would be hell to pay if he didnt.
