I would like to thank my family for their patience while I shut myself away in the study many evenings in a row, typing long into the night. I also thank them for inspiring me by giving me dozens and dozens more like hundreds of stuffed, plastic, and metal aliens and UFOs that have filled the study and helped me get in the right mood for writing on this subject.
I also need to thank my writers group, Off The Wall, based in Winnipeg, Canada. Each member of the group has continued to offer me encouragement and suggestions on how to develop and improve my writing. Youre a great bunch of gals and guys (and aliens)!
I also need to thank my publisher, The Dundurn Group, for giving me another opportunity to share stories about aliens and UFOs, venturing into young adult literature and creative non-fiction for the first time.
Finally, I must thank my artists, Stacey Archer and Lonigan Gilbert, who spent many long hours drawing, inking, and then doing it all over again to produce a collection of masterpieces!
Oh, and thanks to John Carter of Barsoom.
E very day, no matter where you are or what you are doing, it is likely you will hear something about UFOs or aliens. If you are watching TV, flying saucers or aliens may appear in commercials for pizza or chocolate bars or new cars. Aliens have appeared in episodes of many dramas, cartoons, and comedy shows, not just in science fiction series like X-Files, Star Trek, and The Outer Limits. Of course, UFOs and aliens have appeared in recent movies, too, like Monsters vs. Aliens, Knowing, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom ofthe Crystal Skull.
In fact, you may have become so used to seeing UFOs and aliens on television and in movies that you may not be surprised to hear or read about people who say theyve really seen them. Quite often there will be stories on the TV news or online news services about UFOs somewhere in the world, some even with video taken with cellphone cameras or surveillance cams. You might not even give these stories more than a quick glance, if at all.
But have you ever wondered, What would I have done if that was me who saw the UFO? News stories often have experts debating whether the UFOs seen were real or simply weather balloons or secret aircraft. But some sightings are by police, airline pilots, or the military. What did they see? Were they simply making their stories up, or was something really there?
Some polls have found that about one in ten people believe they have seen UFOs. If you take the population of your country, your town, your school, or even one of your classes and divide that number by ten, you get a pretty good idea of just how many people have experienced UFO sightings.
Maybe you dont. You may not believe stories about UFOs and aliens, and you might think the people who report seeing them are inventing stories to get attention, or for some other reason. Its easier not to believe the stories, because they seem so fantastic.
But what if it happened to you? What if you were on a camping trip, walking in a forest one night, and suddenly saw an alien standing next to a UFO? What if you were in your bedroom, almost asleep, when a grey-skinned alien appeared and wanted to take you away? What if you were playing with friends in a schoolyard one evening after school and a large flying saucer came down from the sky and landed nearby?
Although most UFO sightings are reported by adults, people who investigate UFOs note that the ages of witnesses vary. Some of the most puzzling reports on record during the past sixty years (or longer) of flying saucer and UFO sightings involve kids and teenagers not just adults with jobs as astronomers, pilots, and police.
What do those kids, teenagers, and young adults actually see? What really happens?
This book is all about UFO sightings and encounters with aliens actually reported by kids and youth your own age. The stories are based on actual UFO investigation files, government records, and newspaper accounts from all around the world.
Did these things really happen? Did the witnesses really see strange flying objects and meet aliens? Its possible they were just mistaken and only thought they saw a flying saucer rather than a car headlight, or an advertising blimp, or a weather balloon, or any one of dozens of other ordinary things seen in odd circumstances.
Is it all true, or just made up? You be the judge.
Just remember: you may see a UFO some day. And if you read about another UFO sighting in the newspaper or watch a TV news story about someone who says shes seen an alien, you might be able to say, I saw it too!
Y ou cant catch me! shouted Diana as she ran between the houses.
Yes I can! laughed Peter as he gave chase. Youre not home free until you get back to the front steps! Im going to make you it again!
Me too! yelled Brad. Ill get you first, you little squirt!
Her skirt flapping in the breeze, Diana disappeared behind a hedge, giggling, with Peter and Brad in hot pursuit.
