A Perfect Tour of Austria
Day 1
Vienna calling
Youll have to be up bright and early to fit in just the highlights of the Austrian capital. Launch your Austrian odyssey at the Hofburg, the one-time epicentre of the Habsburg Empire. Gulaschmuseum (for more information, ), then dress up for a night at the Staatsoper.
Day 2
Viennese culture
Start the day with a short U-Bahn ride southwest to Schloss Schnnbrunn, the Habsburgs baroque masterpiece. After lunch, head back into the city centre to the Museumsquartier. Youve no hope of seeing everything here, so select what interests you and take your time. Round off the day with a visit to a Heuriger (wine tavern), perhaps Reinprecht (for more information, ) in Grinzing, to sample some excellent reds and whites as well as traditional food.
Day 3
Graz
Just a two-hour drive on the A2 autobahn brings you to Graz. After a tour of the city centre with its mammoth armoury and baroque Schloss Eggenberg, its time to head out into the countryside to visit two quintessentially Austrian sights. First up is the sterreichisches Freilichtmuseum (Austrian Open-Air Museum) with its examples of traditional rural architecture. A short drive west lies the Lipizzaner stud farm, which supplies Viennas famous Riding School.
