Penny moved across the hall from Leonard and Sheldon on September 24, 2007, the same day The Big Bang Theory moved into my heart. Since you picked up this book, Im guessing the show had a similar effect on you.

I have had the enormous privilege of being the script coordinator on this show since season 1. Its been the opportunity of a lifetime. It is such a joy to drive onto the Warner Bros. lot five days a week and work with tremendously talented, kind people who all put their heart and soul into every episode of this show.

One of the things Im most proud about working on The Big Bang Theory is that its a show the entire family can watch together. This means the world to me. After a long day of work or school, a family getting together, sitting in the same room and watching a television show is, quite frankly, a special thing. Families should do more things togethereven if it is just to take a moment from their lives and laugh.

The other thing that makes me so proud to work on the show is that its made science cool. I cant even begin to tell you just how many stories Ive heard about young people who have been inspired to consider a career in the sciences because of The Big Bang Theory . Ive learned more science working on this show than I did in all my time in school. This isnt an indictment of the American educational system, its justwell, okay, its a slight indictment. But thats the thing: growing up and becoming a scientist was never really something I aspired to. Which is probably for the best, because to this day I still have to count things out using my fingers.

Working on this book has given me a chance to reflect on the past eight years. Its been a wonderful but intense process. Last night, I woke up at 4:00 a.m. and remembered I forgot a quote from Sheldon: Your check engine light is on. I quickly grabbed my phone and typed a note so I wouldnt forget to add it to the book. Ive been having these middle-of-the-night recollections a lot lately. So much so that for a while there I wondered if I was going insane. But thats okay; once I turn the book over to the publisher, Im going to have my mother get me tested.
