O ur ancient ancestors the world over looked to nature and the force behind all creation, the Goddess, to provide insights into the way the world works. They did this recognizing that a truly healthy and happy existence wasnt forged solely in the temporal fires of earthly life. It depended on blending, balancing, and tempering everyday reality with spiritual principles.
Careful scrutiny of nature and its cycles led our forebears to associate every season with the Goddess in one of her forms. Come spring, she was a youthful dawn goddess full of blossoming enthusiasm. In summer, the Goddess was a fertile maiden. Autumn finds the Goddess just past her child-bearing years, reaping the rewards of hard labors. Finally, in winter she became the midnight crone, wise, weary, and ready to rest with the earth.
This goddess cycle became part of worldwide annual observances, festivals, and holidays. I wrote this book to introduce you to as many of these observances as I could, as well as others that somehow accented goddess energy. No matter the era or culture, people everywhere could be found celebrating her throughout the year in ways suited to the unique energies of a setting, date, or cycle. I hope you will join that celebration by dipping into this book each day, using the Goddesss magic to guide and enrich your life.
Unfortunately, not all systems of marking times passage were the same, especially when East met West. Consequently, the timing for some festivals changes a great deal from year to year, or region to region, but this deviation wont spoil your daily efforts to honor the Goddess in any way. You see, the heart of your celebrationthe Goddessis changeless and eternal. Her magic works outside of time and outside human convention, which is exactly why miracles are miracles! Whats most important here isnt the exact date or holiday. Its taking the time to look at, appreciate, honor, and internalize the sacred energies of the Goddess in truly meaningful ways.
But which goddess is best suited to help with this personal recreation? The worlds nations depict the Goddess with many different names, faces, and characteristicsbut these are really all part of the same potent lady. As with a crystal that has distinct facets and angles, what one sees depends much on where one stands. These pages allow you to figuratively stand in a different cultural location every day and look at 365 different faces of the Goddess. From this vantage point, using the seasons or holidays themes and the activities provided, you can accent a particular goddesss attributes within to positively transform your reality, one day at a time.
So when you find the apathy bug biting at your heels, when you feel like your daily routine has become drab, when you yearn for a spiritual anchor to hold you firm in lifes hectic storm, or when you want some real soul food, look to the Goddess and her scintillating magic for help and sustenance. She stands ready and waiting to become a partner with you in remodeling every corner of your life. By adorning yourself with her power, you can effectively apply the potential each day offers for exciting, empowering magic.
Like any great adventure, the process of personal change begins with just one step. So turn the page and begin. Ponder the days goddess and how her special attributes might be significant for you right now. Allow her to become a new friend and an ally in achieving your hopes and dreams. Then apply the symbols and activities, adding heaping quantities of originality and personal vision, to rediscover the Goddesss magic that is already part of your spirit, the world, and every moment of living.
Peek ahead a day and scan the activities. If theres anything special you need to find or get, do so while youre out and about. This way you wont have to scramble for items at the last minute.
Before trying any activity, consider if you want to change, adapt, or personalize it in any way. Remember, if a magical procedure doesnt hold meaning for you, it probably wont work.
As you undertake each activity, recognize that you already have the Goddesss potential inside you. The exercises only augment and activate that potential. So, even if you dont have the exact components suggested, you have the most important ingredient for successful magicyou.
Repeat the activities that prove successful and personally pleasing anytime you wish. The dates provided in this book are only a sample construct for keeping your year filled with goddess energy. But really, anytime is the right time to call on the Goddesss power and work her magic.
If you have a pressing need in your life, look in the index under that topic (such as love, health, or wealth). Review the spells, charms, and other activities in the dates listed to see if any might help you now!

January
J anuary starts the year with a plethora of fun, frolicsome festivity. The new year in particular is celebrated by at least 170 nations. The month gets its name from Jana, a moon goddess, which explains the abundance of water-related observances this month (in esoteric traditions, the moon represents the water element). Its also named after Janus (Janas husband), the gatekeeper of heaven, who sees the past and future (see January 9). This couple oversees the years beginning by offering you refreshed perspective and hope for a better tomorrow.
In terms of energy, January focuses on beginnings. Its a time for personal renewal, starting any beloved project, and sustaining those things already in progress. Magic for health, protection, and prosperity is particularly augmented by working during this month.
