This book is dedicated to all those who have had direct encounters with the great flying saucer mystery, many of whom have suffered rejection and ridicule from their peers as a result of personal disclosure. Many experiencers have lost friends, family, or jobs by telling the truth as they know it. Some have even tragically taken their own lives after speaking openly about their encounters with UFOs, as they were unable to endure the resulting sociological repercussions. Thanks to the research efforts of the late atmospheric scientist, Dr. James McDonald, and to the work of the late Dr. Morris K. Jessup, both of whom contributed much to the field of ufology, and both of whom, unfortunately, committed suicide. Thanks to the late Captain Thomas F. Mantell, the first of many pilots to die while chasing UFOs. Thanks to all those individuals who have dedicated countless hours in trying to make sense of the UFO mystery, especially to Dr. Jacques Vallee, and to the late John Keel, whose excellent works have had a great influence on my own personal views of the UFO phenomenon. I have always suspected that if someone were to reveal the truth of our existence, what is really going on in the universe, the true nature of reality, and our actual place as humans within the cosmos at large, that this truth would most assuredly be rejected outright, laughed at, or even incite anger and indignation from those whose ears were unlucky enough to hear it. History is replete with examples of those who were persecuted or even put to death for telling the simple truth. Giordano Bruno was burned at the stake in the year 1600 for holding firm in his belief that other planets were inhabited by otherworldly populations. Likewise, the Catholic Church condemned Galileo for demonstrating his invention, the telescope, considered by Church officials to be an instrument of the Devil. One of my favorite original Star Trek episodes, For t he World is Hollow, and I Have Touched the Sky, features inhabitants of a world who discover the disturbing truth that their planet is actually an artificial spaceship run by a central computer, called the Oracle . The truth of our existence here on Earth, the underlying nature of reality, is surely up there with this unsettling story of science fiction. Likewise, in the 1992 movie, A Few Good Men , actor Jack Nicholson screamed his classic line, You cant handle the truth! As it turns out, the inner nature of the physical universe, and the truth behind the UFO mystery (the subject of this book), is just that weird.
In many ways, life on this planet is like an episode of the television series, Lost . Most of us have difficulty remembering anything before late childhood. Prior to the advent of our memories, some part of us was communicating with our parents and the rest of the world as a little person who is lost forever to us, yet we know that this version of ourselves was real and existed in a state of consciousness that we would not remember later in life. In a very real sense, we have all experienced a mysterious episode of missing time. We are not told where we actually come from, because nobody really knows much about the origins of life. Approximately two million stone tablets that are inscribed with Sumerian cuneiform exist from the ancient world that have not been translated yet, and there are precious few people who have the knowledge to decipher them. They contain our lost history. Even in these modern times, we really do not know how we got here or what we are really doing. The purpose of this life, if there is one, is left to personal speculation and/or religious belief. Our minds are limited in understanding as to the true nature of reality by what our parents taught us as children, what schools indoctrinated from an early age, and what our developing brains began piecing together as we grew into young adults. We generally accept what we are told concerning the history of human development, the history of the world, and the many mysteries of our past that are generally dismissed due to incomplete knowledge. It usually isnt until young adulthood that most of us begin seriously questioning what we have been told about the world, and by then the foundation of our thinking is influenced by the limitations of our own minds and our particular programming. Where we were born in the world has a lot to do with our mental concepts, and our thoughts are influenced considerably by the language that we learned as a child. We think in that language, which carries with it varying concepts of the world at large. Perceptions of reality differ from country to country, depending on the particular cultural heritage that we inherited at birth. As a person who was born in the United States, I was raised by conservative parents who attended a Christian Church of the Baptist denomination. Around the age of 13, I began asking questions to which my poor mother had no good answer, such as, How did Noah load 27 million species of animals onto a wooden boat? or, If children die who never heard about Jesus, do they automatically go to Heaven? This natural questioning of my childhood religious teaching went with me into adulthood. From these childhood questions I studied on my own, and eventually wrote my first book in 2000, Outgrowing the Bible: The Journey from Fundamentalism to Freethinking . At the time I wrote this book, I was unaware that others were writing simultaneously on similar subjects that would eventually enter the realm of my own interests. One such person was Dr. Arthur David Horn. Dr. Horn was once a professor who taught biological evolution at Colorado State University for 14 years. His own integrity forced him to quit his professorship at the university just prior to his retirement to write and publish his work, Humanitys Extraterrestrial Origins . Professor Horn could no longer, in good conscience, continue to teach the standard scientific explanation of evolution, or continue to teach that our species, Homo sapiens , came to exist on this planet naturally without any type of biological and/or genetic intervention. As Horn arrived at his conclusion that humanity has undergone genetic manipulation, another author, Zecharia Sitchin, was also writing his Earth Chronicles series that reveal the story of human origins as documented by the Sumerian culture on stone tablets. I was also quite unaware at the time that David Ickes book, The Biggest Secret: The Book that Will Change the World, had also found its way into the world of modern ufology.
