Hitlers Munich: The Capital of the Nazi Movement: summary, description and annotation

We offer to read an annotation, description, summary or preface (depends on what the author of the book "Hitlers Munich: The Capital of the Nazi Movement" wrote himself). If you haven't found the necessary information about the book — write in the comments, we will try to find it.

The immediate aftermath of the Great War and the Versailles Treaty created a perfect storm of economic, social, political and cultural factors which facilitated the rapid rise of Adolf Hitlers political career and the birth of the National Socialist German Workers Party. The breeding ground for this world-changing evolution was the city of Munich and there is no better way to learn about the origins and growth of Hitlers National Socialism than to study the city. By connecting the sites where Hitler and his accomplices built the movement we gain an understanding of the causes, background, motivation and structures of the Party. Hitlers Munich is both a cultural and political portrait of the Bavarian capital, a biography of the Fuhrer and a history of National Socialism. All three interacted and the Author is superbly qualified to unravel and explain the linkages and their significance.

Preface

M unich is the city where Adolf Hitler began his political career, and where the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (National Socialist German Workers Party, NSDAP) was born after the twin catastrophes of defeat in the Great War and the fleeting 191819 Soviet revolutions. Right-wing extremism in Munich predated the First World War, but it was in the wars immediate aftermath that a perfect storm of cultural, economic, social, and political factors converged to facilitate the rise of Hitler and National Socialism. Why did it happen and why did it happen in Munich? These are the two main questions this book answers through an in-depth historical and culturally-orientated study of Munich and its Nazi past.

There is no better way to learn about Hitler and National Socialism in Munich than to visit the city and see where it happened: where Hitler lived; where the Movement began; where and how the Nazis promoted themselves and their ideology. Nazi ideology found expression in Munich in monumental new buildings, art exhibitions, and political street theatre. The book you are about to read is designed to be both an introduction for readers unfamiliar with Munichs role in the birth of Nazism, and a stimulus for those who wish to deepen their knowledge of the city its architecture, culture, and urban spaces and its links to Hitler and National Socialism. It is both a guide book to the specific sites associated with Hitler and National Socialism, and a critical history with detailed descriptions of these sites and their importance in Hitlers life, the origins and development of National Socialism, and the history of Munich in the Third Reich. German names and terms are used throughout to help you navigate the museums in Munich because most exhibits do not have English translations.

My inspiration to write this book came from the students who were in my MA seminar on Hitler Studies at the UK Defence Academy.
