A Perfect Day In Las Palmas

Have breakfast beneath the trees at a table outside the pretty little Art Nouveau kiosk in Parque San Telmo.

City view
For a panoramic view of the city, take the lift that whizzes you up to the rooftop of the Catedral de Santa Ana. When youve drunk in the vistas, visit the cathedral itself to enjoy the peace in the delightful cloister.

Casa de Coln
Visit the Casa de Coln to admire the beautiful latticed balconies and the replica of a cabin from one of Columbus ships.

Pueblo Canario
Take a bus or taxi to leafy Parque Doramas to admire the splendour of the Hotel Santa Catalina and visit the Pueblo Canario, a beautifully designed complex of traditional island buildings and a museum that pays homage to artist Nstor, one of the brothers who designed the complex.

Lunch
Take another taxi to Parque Santa Catalina, where elderly men play chess beneath the palms, and horse-drawn carriages await passengers. After wandering through, stop for a light lunch at 100 Montaditos (tel: 902 197 494) by the port on Muelle Santa Catalina. Its a cerveceria , which means the beer will be good.
