Giancarlo Stanton and Justin Verlanders trainer (and coauthor of Foundation) shares a total body program that focuses on functional fitness and core strength for a pain-free, active lifestyle Peter Park is a go-to trainer who has worked with pro athletes (Justin Verlander, Giancarlo Stanton) and celebrities (Matthew McConaughey, Maria Shriver, Rob Lowe). Park himself is a three-time Worlds Toughest Triathlon Winner. As one of his clients says, Having Peter as your trainer is kind of like having Bill Gates as your computer science teacher. Now Park and his team bring their expertise to anyone who spends long hours at work, has lost strength, mobility, and freedom of movement, and who wants to get it all back. Parks proven program will help readers reclaim fitness by learning functional movements designed to retrain poor patterns. With a series of workouts that build upon one another, readers will learn to get the whole body working together, restoring the core and regaining pain-free movement to truly live a life without limits.

Neither did Mike Kelley or Chip Blankenhorn. Let me explain. Back in 2013 I coauthored Foundation: Redefine Your Core, Conquer Back Pain, and Move with Confidence with Dr. Eric Goodman. The book shared the training method we created to help people overcome back pain and move better. Developing Foundation Training had a big impact on the way I train my clients, whether they be young moms looking to get fit again, pro athletes trying to increase their performance, or the vast majority of people I train who used to just do itjust kill it on the bike or slopesbut werent getting it done anymore.

Although Ive helped a lot of women and men Rebound during my thirty years as a fitness and strength coach, I wanted a specific test group for this book so I could pinpoint how long a successful Rebound takes. I defined success as losing excess weight, overcoming injury, and being able to return to full, out-of-gym activities like tennis, running, playing hoops, or planting a vegetable garden. So John Murphys call couldnt have been better timedand he couldnt have fit the Rebound bill more perfectly. Like most of us, John had played high school sports, but later raced triathlons, even did a couple of Ironman races. But after many years in a high-stress desk job without time for exercise, John had gained a few pounds, had undergone surgery on both of his knees and both of his shoulders, and suffered from back pain. Johns biggest weakness was his strength: Hes a cardio guy and never really lifted weights, which was why he was so vulnerable to injury.

He needed to get strong to overcome his aches and painsand to prevent further issues. I agreed to take John on if he could find a few other guys looking to get back in shape. Johns first call went to Mike Kelleyperfect because Id known Mike since high school. Back then Mike really used to get after it on the basketball and beach volleyball courts. After school Mike started his own construction company, so he was always active, he never let himself get out of shape, but hed had back, knee, and shoulder surgeries, had gained a few pounds, and wasnt getting after it much anymore. Mikes Achilles heel was cardio: He hated it, especially the boring-as-sh--! cardio machines like the stationary bike, the Concept 2 Ski-erg, and the Versa Climber.

Perfect! Id have to convert him. Mike became my second guinea pig. The next call went out to Chip Blankenhorn, a former Stanford water polo player (go Cardinals!). Nowadays Chip works as an environmental consultant. At six-foot-three and 250 pounds, Chip was one big dudetoo big, he agreed. And Chip is strong but had what I call pool strength, which isnt very functional in the real world.
