Acknowledgments

I am very thankful for this opportunity to work with such talented and creative designers. Their passion for crochet fueled my love of swatching, drawing diagrams, and even editing. Thank you for making this book come alive with your brilliant projects.

All the yarns used in the book were graciously donated by the yarn companies. Thank you so much for all your support and quick response to my requests; I truly appreciate all that you have given me. Those companies are: Blue Sky Alpacas, Brown Sheep Company, Cascade Yarns, Tahki/Stacy Charles, Lion Brand, Caron International, Spud and Chloe, and Coats & Clark.

Thank you to everyone at Interweave, especially Katrina Loving and Karen Manthey, for making the ramblings of a sleep-deprived mom sound intelligent.

Most important, I would like to thank my friends and family for all their love and support in every crazy challenge I take on. I would especially like to thank my husband, Mark, for his unwavering love. Without his encouragement and help, this book would not have been possible.

Lastly, I want to thank you, the readers. Thank you for enjoying what I love to do so much. Your enthusiasm for crochet is what keeps me energized to share my kooky designs!

Dedication

This book is dedicated to my sister, Courtney, for being my constant cheerleader, wise advisor, and comforting friend.

Have you ever asked yourself something like What can I make with this one - photo 8

Have you ever asked yourself something like What can I make with this one beautiful ball of yarn? Can I really make a shawl with only three balls of yarn? Can I make something with scraps from a few old projects? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then Simply Crochet is here to help. This book was designed to give budget-conscious crocheters the tools to make the most of their yarn stashes. Making something yourself is not only satisfying and fun, but it can also save you some money!

When a new baby is born, I immediately start to think about what I can make for him or her (not what I can buy). When I need a gift for teachers, or the mail carrier, or neighbors, I know that crochet is a great way to make a custom gift that wont hurt my pocketbook. The best part is that while you are crocheting all those gifts to show that you care, you will also be having so much fun that you will forget you are saving money. Being frugal does not have to be boring, nor does it mean that you cant be trendy and stylish.

I invite you to start your journey through Simply Crochet. There are multiple designers featured in this book to help me show you how to use up every bit of yarn that is sitting around in your craft room, under your sofa, hidden in your car, or forgotten in a closet. Even if you decide to go out and buy new yarn, youll be delighted with the range of projects in this book that use only a few balls of yarn! The projects are arranged according to the amount of yarn needed. The chapters are broken into one-, three-, and five-ball projects (or fewer). You will see that five balls of yarn really can make a great sweater or a cute baby blanket, while just one ball can yield a stylish cowl or chic hat.

Making something yourself is not only satisfying and fun, but it can also save you some money!

Throughout the book, youll find tips and tricks for things such as buying yarn on a budget, repurposing old projects for usable yarn, and using remnants of yarn left over from past projects. Youll find that sticking to a budget is easier than it sounds. So, grab your hooks and yarn stash and come along to see what hidden gems we have cooked up for you!
