One of the hardest parts about starting a new project is not knowing where to find the right materials. If an item on a project supply list was purchased from a specific company, I have listed it for you in the tutorial. Hopefully, this will help cut out some legwork and get you started in the right place. Following is a list of terrific art suppliers and brands that I use and trust. Dont be afraid to deviate from the items listed below and in each tutorial; there are so many wonderful companies out there making great things.

acknowledgments
To my best friend and husband, Collin. Thank you for not only being involved but also being interested in my many endeavors. Your unwavering enthusiasm for life and learning is infectious. I love you. Home is wherever you are.
A huge, gigantic, forever and always thank-you to my parents. Mom, Dad, this book wouldnt have seen the light of day without your support, encouragement, and hard work. Thank you for teaching me how to make things! Also, thank you for taking such good care of Davie anytime I needed you to, and for putting in long hours with me to help me finish all these projects. You both raise the bar on what it means to love. I love you tremendously.
To Pat and JackI truly did win the in-law lottery. Thank you for all your support and enthusiasm, which typically translate into heavy lifting and baby duty. You are always there for us and I love you.
To my lovely editor, Angelin Borsics, thank you for championing my dream book and for making me sound like a million bucks. You brought out the best of my vision and made it truly beautiful. Thank you also for that coffee stain on my edits; it made me smile.
This book simply would not have been possible without the wonderful team at Penguin Random House/Clarkson Potter, specifically Debbie Glasserman, Patricia Shaw, and Kevin Garcia. Thank you all for your endless enthusiasm, attention to detail, and guidance.
To Julia Wade, who rocked the socks off these photographs. This project shines because of your insane talent. Thank you for your positivity, friendship, and very large minivan and for owning the process from day one.
A heartfelt thank-you to Tate Obayashi, who drew the sweetest illustrations for this book. You have been a wonderful friend and huge help to me through many years and I am so very thankful for you.
To Lisa Tauber, who saw my vision and gave it a chance. Thank you immensely for your vote of confidence. I hope I made you proud.
A big thank-you to Shelly, Emily, Arielle, Meghan, and Tate for helping me to get this book started in the right direction. I miss my dream team.
Pat, thank you for letting me prop-shop your house and for trusting me with your beautiful books and artwork.
Thank you to the wonderful team at Nomadic Trading Co. (www.nomadictrading.com), for letting me search endlessly through the insanely beautiful piles of rugs and then trusting me to cart them all over town. They made the rooms pop!
To all the homeowners who graciously welcomed me and all my projects into your homes for this book, I am so grateful: Lisa and Justin Hauenstein (www.threveinteriors.com), Steven Burke and Randy Campbell (www.americanfolkartbuildings.org), and Rachel and Joseph Bradley (www.josephbradleystudio.com). This book comes to life because of the love, care, and personality that you put into your living spaces. Thank you!
Lastly, to my sweet Davie, I love you. You are my wish.
reclaimed-wood bench
SKILL LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE
FINISHED SIZE: 48 12 20 INCHES
This simple and stylish bench does double duty in looks and practicality. It serves as an easy landing spot for mail, keys, and loose pocket items and fits equally as well at the foot of your bed, stacked high with books and blankets. Move it freely from room to room and see where it feels right for you and your familys needs. The loveliest part about this bench is that it looks like it came with history and a story. To make this project really shine, search for wood boards and lumber with character at reuse and construction salvage stores.
