Introduction
Welcome to Colored Pencil Collage! I am so happy to be bringing you this multi-media creation filled with inspiration at your fingertips. I hope it will set you on a journey of playing, experimenting and growing into the artist you would like to become.
It is an adventure and through step-by-steps, you will see changes and advancements in your art. You will start to fine-tune your color palette and the things you collect and add to your artwork. It all comes with practice and does not happen overnight. Be patient with yourself and explore every possibility with the wide-eyed innocence of having never done it before.
My journey has taken a lifetime, and I am still learning and honing my skills every single day. Being creative every day is something I must do. It comes to me in many forms whether painting, pencilling, writing or taking photographs. It doesnt matter as long as I do something each day to keep me on my toes and searching for my muse.
In this book I will help you explore materials, colored pencils, design skills and projects that build upon themselves as the book progresses. Flip through, find something that sparks your creativity and start there. There are no rules, just fun projects to get you thinking outside the box and into your collections.
For me, collage is about adding a personal touch or piece of myself to my artwork. Whether it shows up in the color palette, subject matter or the ephemera I add, it all comes down to what I like and what I want my finished art to say. By combining the things you collect, treasure and love, how can the art you create not be about you? It really cant, and that is the beauty behind collage work.
CHAPTER 1
Materials
As we get started, I thought it would be nice to introduce you to a few of my favorite things and sources of inspiration. I find both invaluable to being an artist and hope they will help you discover what you really love along the way. From material basics, mediums and embellishments to outdoor treasures, collections and a reference library, how can we go wrong with what inspires us? We cant, and thats a great thing.
It takes time to build up a wealth of resources so start slowly. If you like nature, take a walk and pick up anything that piques your interest. If you like to shop, make note of color combinations or interesting textures. All of this will create a library for you to call upon when needed. Throughout these pages I will be sharing what I love, collect and embrace as my inspiration starters. Let them guide you to a creative jump start to finding you, the artist.
