Acknowledgments
To my family, friends, relatives, kith and kin, I thank you most sincerely. You all know who you are, and I am forever grateful for your continued encouragement and support. I have spoken with many of you about this project for quite some time, and I thank you for hanging in there with me to see its fruition.
The East Bonner County Library and staff deserves my years-long appreciation for accessing books for me from libraries from Alaska to Arizona, and for all the books they acquired seemingly at my request. They have always been and continue to be most gracious, and my research was greatly enhanced by this congenial relationship, for which I am so thankful. I my library!
Many thanks to the following individuals for their support in helping me create my original journal and for the inspiration to continue the work and complete this book: local instigator Diane Newcomer and trusted science counselor Edie Kinucan; writers and contributors Robin Klein, Julie Summers, Joy Bittner, Beverly Red, Zella Bardsley, Kahlee RootWoman Keene, Jackie Ramirez, and Harvest McCampbell; fellow herb-zine editors James Troy, Deb Duchon, and Vickie Schufer; Debbie Boots, wild food expert and instructor long before it was cool; Debi Richardson for production refinery; Aha! elf Sara Wallace; origami apprentice Rose Shababy, for unrelenting support; ink-master and expert idea-interpreter Mike Fellin; computer benefactor and proud mom Dorothy Dunn; and beloved wood wizard Dave Veitch. I also want to thank all my brothers and sisters, those in-laws and outlaws of my life on whom I know I can always depend. I thank my womens circle for cheering me on. (If Ive missed someone, it is purely unintentional.)

I have done my best to give credit where credit is due.
My old friend Edie passed away while I was preparing the manuscript for this book, and Im very sorry she couldnt have seen the completed work. She has been a counsel to me from the beginning.
A special thank you to Carrie Obry and Rebecca Zins, and all of Llewellyn Publications, for having confidence in my work and for encouraging me to be Me.
Each and every one of you has been a teacher to me in your own way; I am so blessed.
This book is dedicated to my grandchildren, Quinton & Leeland and Miranda & Justine, and all the young ones, so they have some place to begin their journey. May this book be a springboard for their curiosity and imagination.
