HOUSEHOLD ELECTRICITY AND APPLIANCES
Everything about electricity in home and how best to use it
PREFACE
The contents of this book are based on vast professionalexperience of the author for over fifty years with the modern genie - ELECTRICITY - the very lifeline of mankind today.
The important feature of the book, perhaps first of its kind ever published on the subject, is the easy to comprehend style of presentation of the text and matter related to everything about household electricity, starting with the basics of electricity: what it is, how does it come about, how does it reach a household, how does it spread to various parts of the house, what it would cost every month and many more related aspects. Special emphasis is laid on a detailed discussion of various essential components of household electricity such as a variety of switches, sockets and protection devices etc. - the devices that are usually taken for granted in a household.
Most households in India and elsewhere depend on the day-to-day use of a multitude of electrical appliances to make the life of a housewife comfortable, less tedious and timesaving whether for making a toast, ironing clothes, baking a cake or using a mixie for different purposes. The book devotes tens of pages on discussion related to every possible appliance that may find place in a modern household. An easy to follow description is presented of every appliance, taking resort to a number of visual images and illustrations, avoiding too much technical details. Much of the presentation of working of a number of electrical appliances, from their basics of constructional detail to principle of operation in simple words, is largely based on personal experience of the author with most of these appliances being in use in his residence. The style of presentation throughout is user-friendly and interesting.
A considerable part of the book pertains to working principles of entertainment gadgets such as CD players and assorted accessories such as cell phone chargers etc.
An important feature of the book comprises a very detailed discussion concerning renewal sources of electricity generation, so relevant today in the backdrop of perennial scarcity of conventional sources of electricity and yet so vogue to talk about, esp. electricity from the Sun and how this is going to be the energy of the future in a matter of a few decades, surpassing all (conventional) means or sources of generation of electrical energy.
It is hoped that this book would form an important, much desired source of information and guidance for the members of a typical household, in particular the housewives, now commonly identified as homemakers, making them necessarily more informed about what electrical energy is and how to exploit it much more effectively and economically by understanding the basics of electricity and simple operation of a variety of electrical appliances, now increasingly in use in nearly all households - some of these being historic in nature whilst quite a few having been introduced during past few decades.
