Book Description

Congratulations, youve taken the plunge and convinced your boss that working remotely from a home-based office is the way to go! Whatever reason youve chosen to make this life-altering career choice, its important that you enter this phase of your life by hitting the ground running!

I chose to switch to working from home to place my family first, after dedicating 12-years of my life to working the conventional 9 to 5 life, commuting to the office and getting the work done. Over those 12 years I missed many precious firsts with my two kids. These are things that no matter how hard I work, I can never get back again.

This was my main reason, and my wake-up call. The time when I finally realized that there was more to life than wasting hours every day commuting back and forwards to an office, when I could actually produce the same high-quality work from home. Fortunately, I was able to convince the executives within my organization that I could be just as effective, if not more so, by working from a home office.

That was five years ago, and I sure wish that at the time, there had been someone out there who had some of the tips, tools and techniques that Im going to share with you! It wasnt all sunshine and roses at first, and it took a steep learning curve for me to find my rhythm and balance. Not only when it came to my work / life balance, but also how to set up your work environment to be productive from day one!

In MASTER Working from Home Successfully: More than 100 must know tips for every home office worker, I am going to give you a complete breakdown of everything that you need to succeed in your home-based work. Whether this relates to designing and setting up your space so that its professional and separate from other areas of the house, all the way to choosing hardware and software thats aligned to your business.

Im going to share time management advice and how to get the most out of your day, every day, even when that means taking time out to support your family with things that are important to them. After all, that was my main reason for choosing to get out of the conventional nine to five rat race: I was tired of missing out on watching my children grow.

One of the most important messages that Id like to get across is that even though youre working from home, the emphasis still needs to be placed on the fact that youre meant to be working and be productive for a certain number of hours each day. As long as youre able to do this and can manage your time effectively, this will help you to not only develop discipline, but it will prove to those you work for that you can be trusted and are a valued asset to their business.

This is one of the reasons why in the last five years I have been promoted several times. Even though Im not physically under the scrutiny of superiors on a daily basis, I have proven myself to them in the quality and quantity of work produced. I do what I am meant to do, as and when Im meant to do it, without questioning why its required.

Thats not to say that I dont have a mind of my own. My relationships with my peers and supervisors are rock-solid, because Ive had to learn to work together and rely on them whenever weve worked on projects together.

Whether youve been given the opportunity to work remotely for someone else or for a corporation, or you think that you have what it takes to set up your own business, working from home, many of these tips will help you establish a business thats not only credible, but one that can also prove to be successful. The key component to any successful business is that it requires work on a regular basis. No business can be successful or sustainable without putting in the daily effort necessary to make a real go at it.

These tips have been compiled thanks to steep learning curves that Ive had to experience for myself and figure out the hard way. My main aim is that these will help you develop habits that will last and propel you towards lasting business success.

Introduction

Having worked suited and booted in a typical 9 to 5 office environment for more than 12 years, I was offered the unique opportunity to work remotely from home. One of the main deciding factors in coming to this major decision in my career was that Id already missed out on so many firsts that I would simply never be able to get back again. As a father of two, the early years of development were important to me, and I soon realized that, with all the things I was missing out on, my work / home-life balance was totally out of whack. Something needed to be done about it and sooner rather than later.

First swimming lessons, first recitals and plays - each of these represented precious time and experiences that could never be replaced again. Time is finite and no one wants to waste even one second that could be spent doing things that are worthwhile. Its more important to contribute to the growth and development of family ties, rather than being stuck in endless meetings while trying to climb the corporate ladder.

It took me 12 years to figure out exactly what I was sacrificing and losing out on! Fortunately, 5 years ago I was offered an opportunity to begin balancing my work and home life by relocating my office to my home. This book is a result of everything I have learned, experienced and discovered for myself through trial and error over the last five years; it will assist you by providing you with more than 100 Tips and Techniques that everyone working from a home based office should know of. Naturally these tips and techniques didnt fall into my lap by accident, instead, they have been gathered on the basis of trial and error. Learning and growing as Ive gone along; Ive learned to get the balance between home and family right and put those things that matter in perspective.

The book answers questions such as:

How can I get more work done?

How can I separate work from home life?

How can I make sure Im not forgotten by my colleagues?

How can I prove myself to my colleagues from home?

How can I have a better working from home routine?
