Welcome to this book of 1001 Tarot Spreads, also called Tarot Layouts.

Tarot cards, seventy-eight highly illustrated cards signifying love, happiness, travel, making your own money, long-term security, new beginnings, and many other themes, are as relevant to our lives today as when they were first created in medieval times. In this book, you will discover everything you need in order to read Tarot cards. This includes the basic meanings of each card, and methods of dealing or laying out the cards and interpreting them. You will be able to use this information to try any of the 1001 different ways of instantly laying out the cards, even if you are a total Tarot-card beginner.

Tarot is the most exciting, versatile, and portable form of divination, or discovering and deciding, your own destiny. For Tarot is much more than fortune-telling. The cards offer guidance to assist you in making your own decisions about your future or the future of those for whom you are reading. As well as reading for yourself, you can read the Tarot during a fun evening with friends, in a heart-to-heart with someone who is distressed or anxious, or even to take up Tarot reading professionally. If you are already a professional Tarot reader or teacher of the Tarot, this book will offer you source material and new ideas for developing your existing good practice.

For, whether reading for ourselves or others, Tarot reading provides the chance to look over the horizon to the possibilities that are on offer if we follow a certain path rather than another, and also alerts us to challenges along the way with suggestions on how to overcome them and even to turn an obstacle into an advantage. Sometimes the cards may indicate a totally unexpected factor that can help us make wise choices, so we steer our own destiny, rather than going along with what life or others offer. A Spread or Layout of cards chosen seemingly at random from a facedown deck may suggest new approaches in love, career, health, money, travel, family, workplace issues, and social lifeor alternatives to an existing problem or dilemma.

A Tarot deck also forms the focus for many divinatory and psychic activities and can be usedas well as in Spreads or indeed as an extension of a card Layoutas a basis for meditation, creative thinking, discovering past lives, mediumship, magick spells, or manifestation of needs and desires. There are no definite set-in-stone rights and wrongs in laying out and indeed in interpreting cards: just ways that people have found helpful when using Tarot cards. If any order of cards or card meaning doesnt feel right, change it and note your changes. Tarot is a living, growing art, and every one of us brings to it our unique insights and intuition.

All the Spreads/Layouts in this book are ones that I have created and have been tried and tested by me in thousands of readings over forty years or more. Some I have adapted by watching the way other Tarot readers in different countries I have visited set out their cards. Others are inspired by various folk, magical, and psychic traditions. For Tarot Layouts, like the Spread positions themselves, belong to no oneand everyonewho reads Tarot cards, because they are a living and constantly evolving tradition. Frequently I will modify a Tarot Spread when someone points out to me an alternative I had not considered, but which on reflection offers a new dimension to the reading. You will probably eventually have perhaps twenty favorite Spreads that fit all occasions, some of which you will have created yourself once you see the way it all works. Some of you experienced readers will already have your special Spreads but may find that some of mine inspire you to new ways of interpreting and setting out the cards.
