INTRODUCTION

W hen I was twenty-nine years old, long before bookstores had chairs and cozy reading corners or I owned my own bookshop, and years before I had even heard the word Ayurveda, I found myself sitting on the floor of Crown Books in Washington, DC. I had come across a book called Ageless Body, Timeless Mind: The Quantum Alternative to Growing Old by a young Indian doctor named Deepak Chopra. The flap of the book had a quote by Wayne Dyer: Who might have imagined that the secret to conquering this universal mystery [of aging] lies not in our physical bodies but in our consciousness? The introduction went on to say, By intervening at the level where belief becomes biology, we can achieve our unbound potential. I learned while flipping through the pages that if one is feeling sad, its not just in the brain, but all over the bodybelief becomes biology. We can use our own abilities to create our reality. Our internal dialogue is just random mental noise coming from beliefs and assumptionsand this was just up to page 26!
