DERMATOLOGIC
NURSING ESSENTIALS
A Core Curriculum
THIRD EDITION
The Dermatology Nurses Association (DNA) was established in 1981 as a not-for-profit specialty nursing organization. It serves its members through a national structure and locally through chapters. DNA also extends its services to its international members. Registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, licensed vocational nurses, and individuals involved or interested in the care of the dermatology patient are eligible for membership in the association.
PHILOSOPHY
The DNA believes that the patient is the fundamental focus of health care. We believe the quality of patient care is greatly enhanced through the promotion of education for nurses in the specialty of dermatology. We believe the advancement of dermatology nursing clinical practice is based on research, and we are committed to encouraging the testing and sharing of new ideas. We further believe that a sense of professional pride evolves with an expanded knowledge base, increased opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration, and the recognition of superior achievement within our membership. We believe in dermatology nurse certification as a means of validating knowledge and expertise in the specialty practice of dermatology nursing.
MISSION
The Dermatology Nurses Association is a professional nursing organization comprised of a diverse group of individuals committed to quality care through sharing knowledge and expertise. The core purpose of the DNA is to promote excellence in dermatologic care. DNA accomplishes its mission by:
