Dedication
For my wife, Sophie.
For pushing me farther than I thought possible.
For her patience, support, understanding and strength.
For showing me how a balanced inner world manifests outward, into the real world and inspires everyone.
Dont wish it was easier, wish you were better. Dont wish for less problems, wish for more skills. Dont wish for less challenges, wish for more wisdom.

DARE TO QUESTION YOUR REALITY
The trouble with the rat race is that even if you win, youre still a rat. Lily Tomlin
THE BIG QUESTION is: why did you pick up this book? Perhaps subconsciously youre drawn to this idea and never really thought investing part-time in real estate would be a realistic option for a busy person like yourself. Dont overthink it, because the answer will lead you to an infinitely better reality, fully determined by your own free will.
Throughout Steve Jobs career at Apple, he acted on a philosophy of radical service to his customers where he provided them with something they didnt even know they needed. He exemplified his belief that businesses should be so in tune with their customers they can show them what they want before they realize it themselves.
This is my job. I want to show you that even as a full-time corporate or self-employed working professional, you deserve a life of financial independence, and you can get there through using the tried and true method of stable cash-flow real estate.
You may feel discomfort, apathy and acceptance, or maybe hopelessness and desperation in your financial situation and ultimate dependence on your job. Do you feel more like a hamster on a wheel than a self-standing individual? How about a cog in a machine within a corporate office where no one cares about your ideas and only points out your mistakes? How does it feel to not be able to take vacations any time you want to and be locked up in an office all day as the sun shines outside?
Vacations help us become more productive, giving some space to think, allowing the mind to expand creatively. We are adults, and yet we have lost control of when we can rest and when we can put the foot on the accelerator. In a corporate or high powered small business setting, sometimes we dont have the control to make that choice.
Whether you know it or not, invisible handcuffs are wrapped so tightly you can barely move. The benefits and perks of having a high-paying job or self-employment situation convinces you that the juice is worth the squeeze. Dont get me wrong here. While some of these are great for us in the short term, they are actually crutches that keep us dependent and, over time, feeling trapped. Much like eating fattening or overly sweet or salty food tastes amazing, the effects will put you in a comatose state which saps productive energy for the rest of the day. We should strive to rid ourselves of the temptations and complacency of the corporate shelter we are hiding under. The temptation to keep these golden handcuffs is very real.
We should not be craving this dependency on a corporate machine that views people as numbers. I know this struggle well.
When I used to get home from my job, I would simply plop down on the couch and turn off my brain. I was doing well at my job, but it wasnt rewarding. Looking back, if I was really busy at work and had a stressful day, it started out mostly because I didnt enjoy what I did at work. I remember doing many things in which the work could have been fun to do, but somehow got lost when I was asked to regurgitate repetitive information. Sometimes things were given to me that seemed tedious or monotonous and made the whole experience boring. I could feel my life force draining away due to boredom and it got even harder to concentrate in and out of the office.
I remember a time in which I was working as an engineer for an engineering contracting company. At the time, I had also started to get into personal development. Approaching my boss, I asked him to provide me with a bigger challenge.
Hey John, do you have a minute to talk? I poked around the corner of my boss office pensively. Sure, come on in. he gestured warmly. As I sat down, I felt a rush of confidence and excitement.
Ive been thinking about this for a long time. Are there any assignments that could take me into the field? Im willing to travel as far as I need to. Id like to work directly with clients.
My boss looked at me curiously, understanding that field position is hard work and often takes you far away from home for an extended time. I didnt care. I was 100% confident in myself and knew I could handle anything that was thrown at me. I foolishly went under the false pretense that if I poured my blood, sweat and tears into my work for over a year, adding immense value to both the company and the client, I would be rewarded.
