PREFACE
Teaching qualifications in post-compulsory education seem to change regularly. This is not only because of government regulations, but also to reflect different approaches to teaching, learning and assessment, and to keep pace with the influence of new technology.
This book was first published in 2006 and was called Delivering Adult Learning to reflect the level 3 qualifications at that time. It was successful due to its plain English approach and ability to put complex theories into language new teachers could understand. It was then revised and became Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector to complement the PTLLS qualifications introduced in 2007 which were offered at both level 3 and level 4. It has since been revised a further four times, and this edition is to support those working towards the Award in Education and Training which is now offered at level 3. The book is also appropriate to anyone taking relevant units from the Learning and Development qualification, or anyone just wanting to know what its like to become a teacher.
