T o use mortal words to describe the sublime devotion and mystic connection that a mother has with her offspring is as easy as painting a masterpiece with two colors. These meager offerings will be inadequate for the task given the full range of color that God createdthat full experience of motherhood. To be a mother is fiesta pink with joy, topaz gold with laughter, mossy green with whispery kisses, and sometimes it is cinder gray with tears and hurts.
But always, motherhood is the color of love.
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
P SALM 139:15
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from Gods love.
R OMANS 8:38 NLT
M oms are the best kissers in the world. They get lots of practice smooching on tummies, on toes, on cheeks, and on heads. And their kisses come with extra helpings of smiles, giggles, and cuddles. They are kisses that are bountiful, warm, and slobbery. They are sweeter than lollipops, warmer than blankies, and more bountiful than cheddar fish.
Thank You, God, for moms so full of compassion and tenderness, so full of the kind of sweet kisses that make us warm on the inside and loved all over.
We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first.
H EBREWS 3:14
M oms will sit with you and cry with you and laugh with you, encourage, challenge, and care. They are still listening when everyone elses eyes are glazed over. And then when everything is finished, amazingly, theyre willing to do it all over again.
Lord, Im so grateful for moms who are willing to hold firmly till the end.
For though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again.
P ROVERBS 24:16
M oms have strong arms from carrying you around, so when the time comes for that first step, they are ready to catch you if you stumble and fall. Then when you recover and make those first real steps, moms get so excited that the angels must be singing, and you know life has just begun a new chapter.
Jesus, I praise You for moms who are ready to catch us when we stumblethat they are there to help us rise again no matter how many times we fall.
Be not far from me, O God; come quickly, O my God, to help me.
P SALM 71:12
M oms are smart enough to know when theyre in over their heads with mothering. They know just when to call on the greatest of all parents for helpGod. Theres no charge for His help. His wisdom surpasses all human insight; His love covers all our mistakes. And He works weekendsjust like moms.
Lord, Im so thankful for moms who are wise enough to know whom they need to seek for help and guidance.
The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.
J AMES 5:11
Y ou can drift off so much faster when your mom works her bedtime magic. Shell bring the comforter up around your shoulders. Get you a drink of water. Shell kiss your cheek and say a prayer, and get you yet another sip of water. And then after your visit to the bathroom, shell whisper feather-soft words to you to let you know that youre all tucked in. Sweet dreams, my love.
God, how wonderful that You created moms full of compassion and mercy just like You.
Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or swerve from them.
P ROVERBS 4:5
M oms try not to show off, but they really are masters of many things. They read a lot. They pray a lot. They memorize a lot. They even watch PBS! You can holler out a question from your room, and sure enough, moms always seem to know the answeror where you can find it. Moms are like Wikipedia in the rough!
