There are lonely, single skeins of yarn in every knitters closet casualties of projects discarded in mid-row, single balls of alpaca or cashmere because you cant afford more than one, the leftovers from long-completed projects. They really should be used, but for what? Here are 101 original and charming solutions to the perpetual one-skein problem. Contributed by yarn shops across the United States, these patterns include hats, mittens, scarves, bags, socks, baby sweaters, belts, headbands, a cell phone carrier, and even a tea cozy and a set of coasters, each using just a single skein of yarn. With patterns arranged by yarn weight, youll easily find broad ranges of possibilities for your particular yarn orphans. Each pattern includes the names of the contributing yarn shop and the designer and an image of the completed project.

Welcome to Crochet One-Skein Wonders!

While each of the previous books in the One-Skein Wonders series has included crocheted projects, this is the first one devoted solely to crochet.

According to Merriam-Websters dictionary, crochet is needlework consisting of the interlocking of looped stitches formed with a single thread and a hooked needle. No one seems to know the origin of crochet (though the word comes from Middle French for hook), but it has been practiced for at least four centuries throughout the Western world to make lace fabrics. Modern stitchers ply their crochet hooks and yarn to create everything from lace to dolls to sweaters and more.

Carrying on the tradition of the One-Skein Wonders series, this volume offers a wide variety of projects including scarves and shawls, hats, gloves, socks, bags and purses, jewelry, items for baby and child, home decor, and several amigurumi projects. Youll find the projects organized according to yarn weight, with like projects together within the weight category. So if you have an abundance of DK- or light worsted-weight yarn, check out the Light Weight section where youll find patterns such as the Ice-Cold Summer Scarf on . For those of you who prefer threadwork, weve included a section with eight projects including jewelry, accessories, and home decor.

If its hats youre after, youll find 18 patterns, such as Blue Bow Hat on in Bulky Weight. Youll also find projects for babies and children hats, booties, dolls clothes, stuffed toys, and a bib scattered throughout the sections.

Weve used the Craft Yarn Councils standards to classify the yarn weights, and youll find a chart of these weights on of the appendix. Also in this section is a glossary of all the techniques youll need to complete the projects, as well as a list of abbreviations weve used. Wherever we thought it helpful, weve included a diagram of the stitch pattern, and youll also find a key to the symbols used in the appendix.

We hope you find plenty of projects within these pages to keep those hooks moving and those loops interlocking!

This little trivet is constructed of two simple hexagon motifs that are crocheted together. It is shown here in one color, but color changes on various rounds would add a little pizzazz.
