Interesting Facts
Various Types Of Mehndi
Introduction
Mehndi is a form of art which depicts festivals or celebrations, where creativity and design blended together makes anyone feel jealous of the whole mehndi design. It is applied to both sides of the hands up to the elbow and sometimes reaching the biceps muscles and on the front portion of the legs. It adds so much beauty to the hands that no one can take their eyes off somebodys hands that have mehndi on it.
Traditionally, mehndi was worn during wedding ceremonies for the bride and her close relatives. Now, because it is so aesthetically pleasing, people have started wearing it on various occasions, even for parties. These days, mehndi designs have been incorporated into various other industries such as greeting cards, sari making, gift items, glass paintings, tattoos and so forth.
Mehndi is generally only for women. But in some way, it is connected to men because most of the men get attracted by these designs on the hand and also by the smell of the mehndi mixture on hands.
Interesting Facts
When mehndi is applied to the palms, it gives a natural coolness to the body. This is why it is not advised to wear mehndi when have a fever or a cold. The reason behind this fact is the nature of the leaves used to prepare this mehndi mixture.
Various Types Of Mehndi
Before learning about the mehndi designs, you should know about the various mehndi types.
Bombay Style
In this style, the designs have no gap in between each other and they are worn up to the biceps muscle for brides and if it is for normal purposes, it is worn just a little below the elbow.
Hyderabad Style
It is the same as Bombay style but it is worn only on the palms. The designs are usually birds with names encrypted in between the designs, etc.
Arabic Style
In this style, there is a lot of gap in between the designs and the beauty lies comes from a combination of white skin and the mehndi design. That is the specialty of this style. It is worn just below the elbow on both hands.
What will you need to do a mehndi design successfully?
- Patience: There is no way to rush a mehndi design and have it turn out the way you want it to.
- Strong basics: Basics have to be practiced on a paper first. Chances are that you will not be able to apply mehndi design straight to the skin right away; you will need to practice on paper first.
- Creativity: Self-design is the best way to create mehndi because looking at pictures in a book is hard to relate and orient onto the skin. If you try to simply copy a design from a book, chances are that it wont turn out the way you want it to.
