However, you might have heard how great it is, but dont really know the extent of it. what is there to do in New Zealand? Most people know it as the hub for where Lord of the Rings was filmed, but its so much more than that.

New Zealand is a group of islands filled with a wealth of rich culture, and there is a lot for you to do. Its a more expensive country to travel to, with food options and the like a lot pricier in some cases than other countries, but if this is something that you want to do, this is certainly possible.

The first place well discuss is Queenstown. Now, the best thing about Queenstown is that it is loved by everyone. Lets face it, you cant really hate Queenstown, because its a wild place with so many icons. This is in the south-western part of the South Island, and it is a gorgeous inlet. Its right on the edge of Lake Wakatipu, which allows for a lot of fun. However, its also next to some amazing mountains as well, such as Cecil Peak, Ben Lomond, Walter Peak, and even The Remarkable, so if hiking is your thing, you definitely have some options. Its got a lot of jaded mountains, a lot of gorgeous canyons, really deep rivers, lakes that are so clear you think theyre fake, and even a rainforest. This region is probably the epitome of beauty in terms of the diversity of the land, and it is definitely worth checking out.

Now, of note in this area are a few things. For starters, youll probably end up spending A LOT more time here than you expect. Many people budget for only a couple days here, end up sticking around for a chunk of their trip. It definitely is a gorgeous location, however, expect it to be pretty pricy.

There are a few things that you can do in the area to help offset the costs. For starters, you dont really need to use a car to travel around. Simply walk. You can get a guided tour for a bit of money if youd like, but if youre willing to walk a bit, go for it. The second one, is if youre here during the summer, check out the fruit that is around in the stands. Farmers love to bring their wares here, and you can check out some of the delicious foods that they have to offer.

What you can Do Here

There is a lot to do here. You dont have to spend a ton of money to have fun, which is one of the cool things about New Zealand. For starters, remember that lake discussed in the first part of this chapter? Well you can swim in I, or sail in the lake. If youre a fan of sailing, using a boat, or anything else, this is definitely for you. However, when it comes to swimming, it is of note that its extremely cold, due to the location of where it is.

Now, if youre looking for some great food, and are willing to spend a little bit of money, eat a place called Fergburger. This is a traditional Queenstown place, and it is delicious. These burgers are huge, probably bigger than anything youve had, and not only that, the fries are mouth-watering as well. However, as of note, you might end up spending quite a bit of time in line, because its so popular that everyone is there to get some. However, its worth the wait if youre looking for something delicious. This place also comes with vegan options as well.

Now, if you really want to explore what Queenstown has to offer, you will want to get a helicopter flight. If youre willing to spend a little bit of money, you can take a ride up The Remarkable range and you can look out at the alpine lakes up there, the rainforests and get a birds eye view of the area, and also some of the peaks as well. Of course, these are quite expensive, but if youre a person that is wanting to have a little bit of fun, and to see the sights, this is for you.

Skiing is another great thing to do in Queenstown. For one, youre right near a bunch of mountain ranges, so that means killer snow. It also means youre getting some of the best skiing and boarding in New Zealand. There are many different trails to choose from, and even those that are green to these peaks can have fun. There are some great expert options as well. The best part: if youre not a fan of those hot, American summers, then you can go to New Zealand, for their winter is Americas summer, which is pretty awesome if youre a fan of the winter.

There is also an interesting boat called the Shotover Jet. This is a super fast speedboat that goes through the rivers and such at a huge speed. Its a huge rush because its a super fast boat but it definitely is one that the people who know how to drive it can control. For this attraction, it as well is a bit pricy, but it is often worth the wait, since it is a ton of fun.

For those looking to have less adventure, there is the Kiwi birdlife Park, which is home to a ton of animals and plants, over 10,000 to be exact, and there are a ton of gorgeous birds. However, obviously the park got its name for the kiwis that are there. You can walk around the area and see the sanctuary, along with some shows that done by the natives in the area. The place is a little bit pricy, but its totally worth it.
