Introduction

The title of this book, The Voice of Animals , has a dual meaning. On one level, my work entails being a voice of animals; however, all animals have a voice of their own as well. Although animals are verbally silent, they offer profound messages through their varied means of communication, expression and even telepathic connection with us.

For many people the world over, animals occupy a hugely important place in their lives. We strive to ensure that those animals in our care are healthy, and worry when they show signs of being unhappy. Perhaps the reason that we are so dedicated to them is because they do so much for us in turn and share our exploration of consciousness. People who love animals understand that the companionship of animals can act as a conduit for improving our own sentience, empathy and self-development.

Animals encourage us to delve into our psyche and to scrutinise our relationships with others, to find a route to inner peace and harmony and a more fulfilling life. They introduce to us possibilities that we may not have previously considered, not least the notion that our emotions and thought processes serve as instructions not only to animals, but to other human beings as well. Animals, and the way that we are with them, hold up a mirror to society itself.

My life as an animal was the subject of one of my talks and the concept confused some people at first. It still isnt widely acknowledged by many of us that we humans are animals too, although unlike any other. The reaction to my talk got me thinking about how human-centric our species can be and how much we therefore miss that is relevant to life as a whole. While most of the beings on this planet are nonhuman, their wisdom, experience and insights are often hugely overlooked by humans to our detriment.
