Since NCLB came into play, data has been driving instruction whether or notthe teachers were able to best determine how to calculate and apply the datain real time. Often this is due to the fact that the data teachers receiveis not real-time data, but rather data from the prior year that istechnically out-of-date for the specific student. The other reason is simplybecause undergraduate classes simply do not teach how to figure the typesand calculations of data that would be applicable in different situations, along with what to do with the data to improve student performance. Teachersareand historically have beenexcellent at gathering, recording, andreporting data; however that has often been the extent of their involvementwith it. This book will be the ticket to board the train that gets teachersto understand progress monitoring and calculating growth, as well as what todo with the information once they have it.

Foreword
Approximately 7 years into my educational career as a middle school math teacher,I reached a point of being able to articulate my frustrations with the ways thatschools measured mathematical understanding possessed by students and how manyeducators, and the global public, perceived assessment of learning ingeneral.
