Just dont do it isnt enough. Lets face it. Todays young people chronically encounter sexually charged images and messages, but rarely hear the whole story. They are looking for real answers to tough questions, and Sex Matters isnt afraid to tell them the unedited truth. Every teenager with an Internet connection or a phone in their pocket needs to read this book!
Doug Fields, co-founder of DownloadYouthMinistry.com, youth pastor for thirty years at Saddleback & Mariners Church, speaker, and author of 50+ books including Ways to Be Her Hero
As a youth pastor Im so grateful for Jonathan and his straightforward, honest approach to sexuality and the pressures facing students today. The topics addressed and the real-life case studies hit to the heart of where kids are today. This isnt a sanitized, Christianized, moralized just say no approach but a practical approach to whats really pressuring kids today with biblical wisdom for how to succeed. This is one book that every parent, student, and youth pastor needs on their shelf. Sex Matters has been added to my short list of books every parent and student needs to read before leaving middle school... yup, middle school.
Pete Sutton, director of student ministry and middle school pastor, Christ Community Church, St. Charles, Illinois
This could be the most honest and relevant book available for teenagers in your ministry. I wish I had something this honest and helpful in my hands when I was a teenager.
Brooklyn Lindsey, youth minister, Nazarene Youth International and ReThink Group; author, Thoughts
for Junior High and Confessions of a Not - So - Supermodel
There are a lot of potentially embarrassing questions that rattle around the minds of many Christian teenagers when it comes to sex ( How far is too far ? Is masturbation a sin ? stuff like that). Using powerful stories, eye-opening facts, and surprisingly blunt biblical truth, Jonathan McKee answers these kinds of tough questions with the right mix of truth and grace. He gives teenagers a clear path to living a pure life in a sex-saturated world. Get it, read it, and learn how to let your life and light shine in the darkness.
Greg Stier, president, Dare 2 Share (www.dare2share.org)
Sex Matters provides super-helpful, truthful answers to the big questions youve wondered about, but never asked. Way better than anything youll find through a web search.
Scott Rubin, junior high pastor,
Willow Creek Community Church
Every great adventure starts with preparation. Sex is a great adventure! But it requires thoughtful preparation. Jonathan McKees Sex Matters is the perfect tool to prepare you for that journey. Do yourself a favor and spend some time thinking, processing, and preparing for the great adventure of sex.

Back Cover
I dont think Ive ever requested as much feedback from friends as I did with this book. This subject always catalyzes a wide array of responses, so I solicited the help of numerous friends, other authors, parents, and youth workers to help me ensure a message relevant to todays young people.
Thanks to Brian Berry, Pete Sutton, and my brother Thom, who all poured over this book in detail, offering helpful feedback and tweaks. Thanks to Julie Smith, Sande Quattlebaum, Jennifer Smith, Rick Nier, and Joe and Kerry Vivian. Your insights as parents were extremely helpful. Thanks to so many of my blog readers at JonathanMcKeeWrites.com who sent in common questions they hear from young people. And thanks to the many friends and colleagues in the field of parenting and youth ministry who read this book and offered the kind endorsements you see in the first few pages.
Thanks to my friend and agent Greg Johnson from WordServe for making this project happen. Thanks to Andy, Carra, Ellen, and the entire team at Bethany for your hard work on this book, helping make it a practical tool to put in the hands of young people, parents, and youth workers.
And thanks mostly to my family for supporting me through this project, putting up with my endless questions and prodding about the subject. You guys rock!
But anything truly good that appears on these pages is from God, who deserves all the credit. God, thanks for your amazing design of sex and intimacy! Its mind-boggling why we constantly mess it up. Thanks for enduring with us when we do. We dont deserve your undeniable love and grace.
Ive never met a parent who engaged in conversations with their kids about sex too much .
Not one. Ever.
But in over twenty years of youth ministry, and a decade of writing and speaking to parents, Ive met thousands of parents who have done the exact opposite and looked back in regret: I wish I would have engaged in more of these dialogues.
Similarly, Ive never met a parent who stirred up unhealthy thoughts about sex in their young teens mind when they engaged in a conversation about what the Bible says about sex. Teenagers dont hear a verse from Proverbs and start thinking lustful thoughts. TV, YouTube, and the phones in their pockets usually provide enough of those distractions.
Some parents think, My kids aren t thinking about this yet , so they remain silent. Meanwhile, almost every other voice in their kids ears feeds them lies about sex. If you want a sample, just Google the lyrics of the songs they hear repeatedly, or sit down and take a peek at any of the images they readily encounter on the screens they stare at for literally hours each day. Or next time youre at the grocery store checkout line, look at the magazine headlines to your right and your left. Do you think your kids havent noticed those?
