Screenwriting is a craft that starts with an interesting idea, keenness of thoughts and a clear and unique vision.

A screenwriter is a person who writes TV serials, podcasts, video games, theatre, commercials, and scripts for movies or anywhere that requires story telling.

Screenwriters are responsible for writing what the public will experience visually. Scripts include the dialogues and description of the scenes that will give the director the visual idea of the story. A script on the average is about 100 pages and often would require numerous rewriting. Thus, the work put into a script or screenplay is time consuming.

A script can be an original concept, based on a true story, or an adaptation. Screenwriters either pitch their original story or are commissioned by a producer to write a screenplay. A screenplay is a highly collaborative project thus a director may require the writer to work with him/her to co-write or rewrite the script.

In order to become a successful screenwriter, one has to undergo perennial perseverance & a lot of hard work and practice in his craft.

A screenwriter is the backbone.

He is the one who generates the idea that can be converted into a script.

A screenwriter can convert a simple idea into an interesting story that can be presented in front of the audience.

If you really want to make screenwriting as a career, you need to enhance your knowledge of the film industry prior to even thinking about marketing your script to anyone.

To be successful in this field, you must learn the basic techniques of the screenwriting craft.

This can be done in various ways such as getting yourself educated by reading as many books as you can about the subject matter; learning about the film business, attending film festivals, joining workshops and similar writing classes, collecting and modeling successful screenplays of genres that you are interested in writing (you can also purchase these scripts online) & practice whatever you have learned.

Do not hesitate if you are facing a few failures in the beginning.

Instead, take those failures as feedback or stepping stones to better writing.

Also, if possible try making as many contacts in the showbiz industry-as the saying goes, it's not what you know, but who you know.

The final step is to attain high levels of professionalism (like the successful elite screenwriters), which can be done by chipping away imperfections and flaws and perfecting your script (this is explained in the later part of this book).

A good writer is a one who has the ability to gather, collate & store a ton of details.

They gather expressions, sounds, characters, slang, intriguing characters, and pieces of conversation, images & more into one cohesive package.

A writer weaves an engaging world from what he finds, in consideration of a specific type of outcome or ending.

Thus, screenwriting is a challenging and stimulating profession to say the least.

Like other professions, writing is both fun & frustrating and requires a lot of hard work, not to mention a healthy dose of imagination and massive preparation.

As we all know that every story has a proper beginning, middle and ending--once you get the idea down, developing that idea for your specific audience is the next step.

Development of an idea goes with the following questions:

• How to start?

• What happens next?

• Who are the people involved?

• What happens next?

• What are the challenges involved?

• Does the script make sense?

• What happens next?

• Why?

Formatting your screenplay is one of the most important steps in the process.

People often judge a book by its cover after all.

It is always advisable to make a long story shorter and more concise, and ensure something is always happening to move the story forward.

Unlike other attributes, a writer has full control over the appearance of the script, and in this profession, appearance is everything.
