BUSINESS IDEAS FOR KIDS
At age fifteen, I wrote Better Than a Lemonade Stand! because I wanted to share a secret. I had discovered that starting a business was the most exciting, challenging, and rewarding activity I had ever encountered. My goal was to let other kids know that entrepreneurship is the ultimate adventure, and there is no reason to wait until you are an adult to start experiencing it.
This book fulfilled my original goal of sharing my secret, and so much more. Better Than a Lemonade Stand! began a youth-entrepreneur movement and inspired a generation to launch its own small businesses. Newspapers, magazines, TV, and radio helped spread the message all over the world. Schools added this book to reading lists and even developed entrepreneurship lessons around it.
Since the first edition was published, Ive received more letters and emails than I can count from kids who have started businesses based on the ideas they read about in Better Than a Lemonade Stand! Many of these kids are thrilled that their work has produced real income, and others are grateful to learn about entrepreneurship and are looking forward to sharpening their skills.
Being a kid entrepreneur has actually gotten easier since I first wrote this book. Technology such as the internet provides a host of new opportunities for young people with great ideas. Websites provide free education and discussion forums for entrepreneurs, and you can promote your business through social media and other online venues.
You might be interested to know that kid businesses can turn into really big companies. One business I started when I was twelve grew and grew and grew to over one hundred employees! Since I wrote this book when I was fifteen, Ive followed my own advice. I took everything I learned as a kid entrepreneur and became a successful adult entrepreneur. Heres the best part of all this: if you start now, you can be more successful than I am!
