How you live and yourpersonal style are just as important to your uniqueness as yourskincare and makeup. Through clothes we reinvent ourselves everytime we get dressed. Our wardrobe is our visual vocabulary. Styleis our distinctive pattern of speech and our individual poetry.Style is for starters one part identity, self-awareness andself-knowledge. You can't have style until you have articulated aself. And style requires security - feeling at home in one's bodyregardless of size both physically and mentally. Of course like allknowledge, self-knowledge must be updated as you grow and evolve;style takes on-going self-assessment. Style is also another partpersonality, spirit, verve, wit, has attitude and always carries atwist of inventiveness. It demands the desire and confidence toexpress whatever mood one wishes. Such variables are not onlynecessary they are a reflection of a person's unique complexity asa human being. In order to work, style must reflect the real self, the character and personality of the individual; anything lessappears to be costume.
Having style presumesthat you are a person of interest - that the world is a place ofinterest and that life is worth making an effort for. Rather, it is focused onwhat is personally suitable and expressive. No one should bepenalized for not having style, of course, but those who have itare distinctive and thus more memorable. In the end, style isfundamentally democratic. It assumes every person has the potentialto create a unique identity and express it through grooming and afew well-chosen clothes. It sets apart those who have it from thosewhose dress is merely utilitarian. It announces to the world thatthe wearer has assumed command of self.

Style andExpression
Style is thetotal combination of the way you dress, talk, move your body or doanything for that matter. Simply put, it is how we express ourinner being outwardly. This includes all of our thoughts, emotions, interests, and values. Everything on the outside is merely areflection of what is on the inside. Style equals expression and astyle of expression is a combination of letting your inner beautyshine and your outer beauty shine too.
In a societyincreasingly focused upon image, where the single greatestinfluence on a first impression is someone's physical appearance, does what you choose to wear define who you are? It is certainlytrue that people make assumptions about you based on what they see. From what you look like, what you choose to wear, to the sum of thelittle details like hair, nails, teeth and makeup, it allcontributes to how you are seen and perceived by others. A gaggleflock of girls at the airport heading off on a summer break wearingmatching cut offs and midriff baring t-shirts stating "Single!Ready to mingle!" is a different tale from that of a middle-agedman favouring a fleece and high waistband chinos that equalscomfort before style. Impressions, evaluations and decisions aremade within seconds - even before you have opened your mouth tospeak. Whenever the term style is used, it most commonly refers toone's fashion or outer appearance. But I would like to remind youthat style is much more than your shoulder length haircut, fashionable coat or your designer shoes. It is possible to havelots of clothes and not one ounce of style. Yet it is also possibleto have very few clothes and lots of style.
Yes! Fashion is themeans through which we express style but it takes less in the wayof clothes to be stylish than you might imagine. That is possiblewhy generations of women have coveted the little black dress, agarment so unassuming in line and perfect in proportion that it isthe finest foil for excursions into self-expression. Our desiresfor self-expression through fashion can and does surpass cultural, ethnic and even religious boundaries. No matter what our personalcircumstances or status in society, we all want to be noticed fromtime to time and to have the freedom to express how we feel on theinside through what we wear on the outside.
Fashion and StyleCharacters
It is amazing to seehow the different events in history have influenced and changed theway people have dressed over the centuries. Fashion styles todayare a commonly misunderstood idea, which is less complicated thanit often seems. Fashion and style characters generally refer to thegroups of personality traits that also match specific fashion themeidentities. Clothing in general and outfits are grouped accordingto similarities in style; the same way garments are broken downinto pattern, fabric type, colour etc. Understanding differentstyle characters is the ability to understand differentpersonalities. When you know your personality you spend less andrarely aimlessly shop, when you do shop for garments you aim torefresh and update your current apparel. Yes! That moment willstill occur with those must have buys but they are few when youknow your style identity. When you have defined your individualuniqueness you build the confidence to shop smart by being specificto you.
To follow a wideselection of the current and timeless style characters that existtoday. Most people are either one or depending on a particular daysmood a combination of the styles described. Remember that thesestyles are merely sketches as a guide, not complete detailedcharacter studies. Read through each one of them as if they were acharacter in a play and imagine that you are the wardrobe director. For each character style type, try to get a feel for theirpersonality and then more often than not you will instantly know ifthat is you or some one else that you know. Though some of thesesketches are rather exaggerated, they will generally call to mindreal people that you know. You will spot all of your friends butmost definitely you will recognize parts of yourself in at leastone of the characters or possible a combination of them. Bydefining your style choices - you discover your uniqueness whenyou become comfortable with your style - you find confidence andthis leads you to explore your style in detail naturally you canthen freely go about creating your desired style in what you loveand enjoy wearing. You may develop a critical eye at this point butthis is a great skill to acquire. You may also develop savvyshopping skills but this is another key requirement to havingstyle. Style prospers on courage and creativity. Style goes waybeyond fashion; it is an individual distinctive way of puttingourselves together. It is the unique blend of spirit, substance andpersonal identity imposed on and created through the world ofthings. It is a way of capturing something vibrant and making astatement about oneself in clothes. It is what people really wantwhen they aspire to be stylish.
