dedication

This book is dedicated to my incredibly loving and supportive husband, Jim, who quietly tolerates my obsessive soap making; my kids, who inspired my leap from corporate slave to WAHM (Work at Home Mom); SoapyErin, who is both an amazing professional and friend; Jennifer Perkins, who recommended me as an author for this book; and my online pals who cheer me on through every soapy drama and milestone!

Thank you also to the Lavigna and Chialtas families, who are always ready and eager to help me, no matter what the request. You're the best!

introduction

Welcome to the world of Soapylove Prepare to be inspired Bright colors - photo 4

Welcome to the world of Soapylove! Prepare to be inspired. Bright colors, delicious themes and lots of fun tips have been brought together to help you make the most amazing soaps you have ever laid your eyes on!

Melt and pour soap crafting has never been so innovative or stylish and the best thing is that it's easy to do! With clear steps and lots of great pictures, you will amaze yourself and have a great time doing it. For parties, gifts or just to dazzle your bathroom, these soaps will bring oohs and aahs.

My favorite part of soap crafting is creating something completely beautiful and totally useful at the same time! As you flip through this book deciding which to make first, you will see that there is a big variety of looks to choose from. Donuts, UFOs, silhouettes and checkers are all found here. What they have in common is a love of color, a sense of humor and, most of all, tons of style.

So come on in and start creating. You're bound to Feel the Love!

materials & techniques

If you have never tried melt and pour soap crafting before youre in luck The - photo 5

If you have never tried melt and pour soap crafting before, you're in luck! The materials are easy to find and the steps are not complicated.

Most of the supplies will be in your local craft shop and you may already have many of them in your kitchen. What you can't find locally will be easily found online. Each tutorial in this book has the materials listed in the beginning, but this section will tell you more about the major supplies and what they do.

MELT & POUR (AKA GLYCERIN) SOAP BASE

This is a premade soap that comes in clear or white blocks. The white is the same as the clear base, but with a white colorant. It's a basic soap you can melt in the microwave, add colorants and fragrance to, and remold in any flexible container you have. Please note that you can't do this with any bar soap you buy in the grocery store. You need to specifically buy melt and pour soap made for crafting.

It's often called glycerin soap base because extra glycerin has been added (along with some other ingredients) to make it clear and remeltable. Many people misinterpret this name thinking it's only made of glycerin, and that's not correct. The brand you buy may have the ingredients listed on the package.

Clear soap base doesn't look the same from all companies. For some projects, I have specified Ultra Clear to make sure the soap does not have a yellow tint to it. Any company's white soap base will be fine, though.
