CONTENTS

F ROM A TINY CLOSET-SIZE KITCHEN in our first apartment to sprawling counters with plenty of room for all our kitchen supplies, weve been cooking together for as long as weve known each other. Our kitchen has grown and we have upgraded our pots and pans, but we will always treasure the memories we have made in every kitchen we have cooked in. Even when we lived in an apartment without a working oven, we danced around each other in the little galley kitchen while chopping veggies and preparing dinnerbecause cooking is, and always will be, special to us.

Our shared love of foodand trying and cooking cuisines from around the worldhas become an important part of our relationship. When we decided to get married, we knew we wanted to do something out of the box for our wedding. We decided to bring our family and friends on vacation with us to the home of some of our favorite foods: Tuscany!

Our wedding was held in a thirteenth-century villa in the mountains of Tuscany on an estate covered in olive trees. It came as no surprise to those who know us that food took center stage throughout our wedding weekend. We forewent a traditional rehearsal dinner for a night filled with wood-fired pizza and prosecco for all our guests. On the big day, our cocktail hour featured a giant prosciutto carving stationand, at dessert, a personalized gelato cart in place of a cake. The entire wedding was far from traditional, and we wouldnt have wanted it any other way.

Now that we have tied the knot and are home, we are back in the kitchen creating new memories together with friends and family.

We are so excited to share with you a fresh approach to cooking for two that can work for any modern couple. From cozy date nights in to a weekend brunch for two, and even doable dinner parties, the recipes filling these pages are meant to ensure you and your partner grow your relationship through quality time in the kitchen, eat well, and, most importantly, have fun! This is not your grandmothers newlywed cookbook, and we dont want it left on the bookshelf collecting dust. We hope the spine breaks and the pages get splattered as you cook your way through the recipes. We want you to find your go-to weeknight dinners, favorite snacks and sides, and the dinner party menu you break out when you have loved ones over and want to really impress.

Spending time in the kitchen together is time we treasure because we connect and communicate in a special way. That is why we have specifically written these recipes for two people to cook together. If you decide to surprise each other with a meal, you can cook these recipes alone as well.

Throughout this book you will find a number of recipes for two: From quick, easy salads and 30-minute meals to decadent desserts, theres something for every taste. But we also love sharing our passion in the kitchen with our friends and family. We want to inspire you to spread love through food with ideas for practical parties, like a birthday brunch or Thanksgiving with friends (see , respectively). Well also give you tips and tricks on what youll need to set up your kitchen for success.

Welcome to The New Newlywed Cookbooka new take on cooking for two. We hope you enjoy cooking through the recipes in this book as much as we enjoyed writing them!

W hether you have shared the kitchen for years or are outfitting your first - photo 4

W hether you have shared the kitchen for years or are outfitting your first home together, there are a few basics we want to offer to help you get started. Throughout this chapter we share our recommendations for how to set up your kitchen for stress-free cooking, which kitchen supplies you will needand which ones you should skipand how to organize all those new kitchen tools generously selected from your wedding registry. We will dive into the magic of cooking for two and how to entertain with ease. Most importantly, we will show you how to get the most out of this book and the delicious recipes inside it.

Remix the Registry

We were together for about eight years before we got married, and lived together for about six of those years. When we moved into our first apartment after college, we were lucky enough to receive a number of hand-me-downs from our families to outfit the kitchen. Over the years, and as cooking became the focus of Kenzies career, we made small investments in the kitchen. Some purchases have turned out to be staples we use all the time, while others were impulse buys we could easily have forgone. There were also a few things we decided to wait on and place on our registry.
