When I wrote the original edition of The Minimalist Cleaning Method I looked atthe list of supplies and thought that the list didn't look veryminimal at all. As a result I continued the search for a simpler,more minimal home cleaning style.

I have finally found it. I discovered a way toclean your home thoroughly using almost NO cleaners at all. Thisdiscovery created a new complication, however.

The feedback I received from the first editionof this book told me loud and clear that you LOVED the originalrecipes. In fact, you asked for even more .

I scratched my head over this dilemma for awhile. How do I remain true to keeping this a book about how littlemoney and time one needs to clean when you want even MORE recipes-- and Ive discovered a way to use LESS?

Simple. I do both.

I have reworked this book to give you the bestof both worlds; not only have I expanded the cleaning recipes andmethods to include even more tricks, I also included the incrediblediscovery that can make almost all of those recipes obsolete.

Why? Well, some of you may not be readyfor a new way to clean. Some of you may want to take your time andtransition to the new method; others may just want to continuedoing things the way you've always done them.

...And that's okay!

Honestly it took me a while to fully embracethis new method of cleaning. I was a serious skeptic when Iencountered this and it has taken me more time than I care to admitto actually believe the studies that proved that this newmethod cleans better, uses less chemicals and eliminates MORE germsand bacteria than traditional cleaning methods. Even to this day Ifind myself slipping back into the old habits--I keep a bottle fullof vinegar at the ready for those days when I want to "comfortclean."

I also keep a bottle of Citrus Vinegar cleanerhandy, but that's a recipe for another page...

Just like the original Minimalist Cleaning Method , this book is a livingexample of how I clean my home today. You will find many of thesetips, tricks and recipes in active use in my home on any given dayof the week.

I recommend easing into the new method that Ipresent here; keep your faithful favorites around and available sothat you can experiment with the new tips Ive included here whenyou feel comfortable.

Above all have fun with this! If you dont likesomething, turn the page and try again. The cleaning police are NOTgoing to knock on your door to inspect your kitchen--or anythingelse, for that matter. If you are content with your home THAT iswhat is important here.

Let's be honest--we all hate to clean ourhomes. We hate visitors seeing our mess even more so we tryeverything that comes down the pike or lands on the shelf lookingfor a miracle.

That miracle is not going to happen.

All of those magic potions and super-dupercleaning tools are not what makes your homeclean: You are. In fact, you can get yourhome cleaner using a lot less stuff and spending a lot less moneyin the process.

I started out trying to keep a clean home withthree kids, two dogs and no help. In the time it took to get onearea presentable five others would be trashed. Back in those days Icouldn't decide whether I wanted to throw a temper tantrum or go tobed and cry.

Once I discovered the Minimalist Cleaning Methodthe world just opened up. I could clean less, buy less cleaningproducts, spend less money and have more free time.

This method isn't overly complicated but itworks. Being a minimalist method it does not take detailedexplanations so you will find no extraneous fluff within thesepages. You will discover a lighthearted look at a method ofcleaning so simple it is beyond compare.

Thechoices you make when outfitting your home can make life easier orharder when it comes to cleaning. For instance, choosing to investin multi-purpose items can reduce the amount of stuff you have toclean, minimizing the time needed to take care of your stuff.

When it comes to choosing your furniture, lookhard at your lifestyle before shopping. For instance, upholsteredfurniture like couches and chairs provide unassailable havens forinsects to hide and should be avoided if you live in areas wherebugs are a problem. This is especially true in areas where bedbugsare prevalent; if a couch, chair, mattress or other item getsinfested you may have to discard almost all of your furniture as aresult.

If you have pets they can make a beautifulupholstered piece of furniture look like it belongs in a trash heapwithin minutes--just by jumping on it after playing in the mud.Puppies and cats are also notorious for scratching and chewing onfurniture--a rambunctious puppy can tear a nice upholstered pieceto shreds in just a few moments. As with those who live in areaswith a high insect population you may want to consider solid pieceswith a minimum of upholstery. It is much better to have a simple,wooden-framed couch with easily washable and replaceable cushionsthan an upholstered one in these cases.
