One-Two-Go Phuket: The Quick Guide to Phuket 2013

Thailand has many beautiful Islands to offer. From small paradises like Koh Lipe towards the very developed Islands like Koh Phuket and Koh Samui.

The three biggest Islands in Thailand are Koh (Koh stands for Island in Thai) Phuket, Koh Samui and Koh Chang in the East coast of the Gulf of Thailand.

Phuket offers many different looks and feels for you to discover and enjoy. Kata Beach with its spectacular tropical scenery compared with the stately cassurina trees that are found on Nai Yang Beach just a few kilometers north. The triple canopy rainforest of Khao Phra Thaeo National Park to the mud flats and mangrove swamps of Koh Siray. Limestone outcroppings line the east coast and solid granite boulders on the west. Phuket is truly a tropical wonderland and offers something for just about everyone.

Phuket, with 540 square kilometers of land area and several sandy beaches, is a diverse and fascinating island to explore. A rich culture, a beautiful coastline, spectacular natural sights, loads of outdoor sports and activities, shopping, nightlife and dining are just a few of its many attractions. Phuket Beaches remain the primary draw here, and few islands can boast of such an abundance of sandy beaches and clear waters as Phuket. The winding coastal roads along the west coast offer stunning views and easy access to some of the world's finest beaches. Whether one wants to sample the frenetic pace of Patong or find solitude on a remote stretch of sand in the north, Phuket's beaches have it all for the sun seeker. The natural wonders of the mainland, just beyond Phuket over the bridge at the north of the island, are close at hand. The islands surrounding Phuket each offer unique sights of their own, and are easily accessible within an hour or two by boat. Many have excellent snorkeling and diving sites, while others simply offer nice patches of sand on which to spend a quiet day. To reach them, hire a long-tail boat or charter an island-hopping tour. Accommodation is available on a number of the islands - some of it rustic, some very exclusive.

On your way to Thailand

This chapter shows you on what you should do before arriving in Bangkok airport, how to transfer cost efficient and how to arrive stress free to your Accommodation.

How to get a cheap flight:

If youre reading this book on your way to Thailand by an international flight, youve obviously already purchased a ticket (save up the tips for next time). If youre reading this before purchasing your ticket make sure you dont pay too much! A couple of bucks saved on your flights have better value when invested in a nice hotel.

Do-s

Fly when the others dont! Check flights on Sunday to Thursday as theyre often cheaper than Friday/Saturday flights!Avoid holidays and the peak season in December / January as prices are then much higher.Check all the departure airports near you, as there might be a chance for a special deal, already sold out at your favorite airport.Check flight search engines. E.g.www.skyscanner.netwww.cheaptickets.comwww.cheapflights.comwww.Checkfelix.com..or Google it!

Dont-s

Dont use travel agencies. They need their profit margins and theres nothing they can do better than you!Dont book too early and dont book too late. Pricing depends on pricing strategy of the airlines, and on demand. This makes it naturally difficult to guess the right time to book; tickets are best bought around 3 months before departure date.

How to get the best Deal on your Hotel

Which Hotel should I book?

When it comes to your choice of Hotel, Thailand has tens of thousands of Hotels you can choose of. All Price ranges are available from extremely cheap 5$ a night up to whatever you can pay in one of the best Hotels of the World. Price value is extremely high in Thailand, due to extreme competition and generally low price level in Thailand. So spend some extra 10$ on top and you get a nice 4 or 5 Star Hotel (starting at around 50$ per Night, depending on the season)

How should I book to get the best deal?

Lets have a look on how to book the best value for money on your Hotel Deal:

Use one of the big hotel reservation sites, e.g.

agoda.combooking.comhotels.com

Dont bother booking through a travel agency as they will not have better deals than the booking sites above.

A Metasearchengine that covers dozens of Hotel Booking pages is

http://www.hotelscombined.com

It covers around 1000 Hotels in Phuket and more than 900 Hotels in Bangkok. It will always show you the lowest price of all Hotel booking sites it has in its Database. It is a great way to save some money or to invest in in a better Hotel or a room upgrade!

Dont bother booking through a travel agency as they usually dont have better deals than the mentioned booking sites above.

TIP: agoda is sometimes offering flash deals on some hotels in case you book LAST MINUTE. But also normal rates are often discounted when booking in advance.

What to take with you?

I wont tell you the usual stuff, on medicine, vaccination, and stuff that you should check and take with you in this guide. Youre old enough to organize and prepare. Therefore I just tell you the specifics and tips that make your life easier in Thailand!

Take youre smartphone with you
Buy a local sim Card in Thailand!
GPS based Google Maps will be an exciting way to navigate you around Thailand, a local Sim card can be bought extremely cheap within a minute in the arrival hall at the airport. True the telecommunication provider of Bangkok has a shop directly in the arrival Hall. Turn right after you walked out the immigration and walk around 100meters or 30 feeds. It costs you around 200baht (6$ / 5 Euro) and includes already around 100 minutes local calls or some MB of Data traffic. Recharge your phone extremely easy and can be done in one of the thousands of 7/11 convenience stores that are all over Thailand. Tell the sales guy you would like to recharge your Mobile Phone, the operator youre using (e.g. TRUE) and the value you would like to purchase. Enter your phone number at their terminal, press ok and within some seconds you receive a sms telling you of successful operation. You can also purchase your sim card in 7/11 in case you missed to purchase one at the airport!
