A LITTLE ABOUT THE AUTHOR
H aving spent the youth of my life in a small community called Only, Tennessee, where my parents lived at the time I was born, I received a valuable foundation block for my life. I knew that I would always prefer and try to remain as close to my roots as possible. The simple, down to earth, honest-to-goodness country way of life, would always be me at heart. My love for the outdoors and deer hunting stems from these early years I spent in Only, Tennessee. I began hunting at about 10 years of age with an old single shot 22 rifle. I developed a real appreciation for the ability to bring home meat for the table. There was a feeling of doing my part for the family, and it felt good.
I guess one of my favorite places in the entire world to be is in the deep woods of Tennessee, whitetail deer hunting. Over the years, I have spent thousands of hours in the woods, scouting, tracking and observing, photographing, hunting, and harvesting whitetail deer. Over the years, I have endured all types of weather in order to be out there when the deer were active. When you spend a great deal of time doing anything, you naturally will get good at it if you apply what you learn. You will get even better at it if you truly love to do it. This is the way I feel about whitetail deer hunting and why I feel qualified to write this book. I have taken some nice, racked bucks over the years, and for probably the last 30 of those, as many deer for the freezer as I needed every year.
A LITTLE ABOUT THE GRAPHIC ARTIST AND DESIGNER
M y daughter Melanie, the original designer of this book has been in the printing industry for the past 19 years and in digital prepress for the last 13 of those. Graphic art, and design, computer graphics, and photo re-touching is what she does. Her work is always challenging but very rewarding, and thats why she loves it so. She spent over two years in the design, layout, and digital production of American Whitetail Deer Hunting Tips and Resources. This book is over 500 pages, 39 chapters with hundreds of photos and illustrations. Since it took over six years researching and writing the book, Melanie worked with me during that period to make the finished product the high quality creation that it turned out to become. All this is why it took so long to produce and during the process she learned a great deal about the whitetail deer, deer hunting, and everything that it entails, but more importantly for me, we learned a lot about each other. I am extremely impressed and proud of her and her ability to do high quality graphic art work and her dedication to each project she undertakes. Melanie is very detailed and precise, a perfectionist, and as a result her work reveals this type of approach. The experience of working with my daughter on this project has been priceless and I am so very proud that she has been a part of it all. I know that she feels that this book is one of the most challenging and rewarding things shes ever done professionally.
