For the past decade, the Golden Retriever has ranked among the five most popular breeds registered with the AKC, with more than 65,000 Goldens registered every year. The Golden Retrievers personality is as golden as his outer coat. He was bred to please, and please he does. He started out as a hunting partner who delivered birds to hand and has evolved into modern times delivering whatever suits his owners fancy. Because Golden Retrievers were originally bred to work in tandem with humans, they are also highly trainable.

Golden Retrievers For Dummies is intended for busy 21st century dog owners who dont have time to sit down and read through 300 pages at a crack. This is a reference you can jump in and out of as dog questions rear their furry heads. This handy guide is also for you if

  • You own a Golden Retriever or thinking about getting one.
  • Youve just brought home a Golden pup.

  • You want to help your Golde n to not just survive but to thrive.

  • Crate training, housetraining, and obedience training

About the Author

If there is one thing that defines Nonas life, its this: She could not live without her Goldens. For the past 30 years, they have been her best friends and the inspiration for her books. They have also blessed her with friends from all corners of the dog world: breeders, veterinarians, dog writers, professional trainers, great training partners, and so many good dog friends who adore all furry creatures great and small.

Nonas special love is working with her Goldens in the field, and she trains them for field trials and hunt tests as well as for obedience competition. She has trained several of her dogs to the Master Hunter level and Qualified All-Age status in the field, and many others to obedience and other working titles. Nona also judges field events and enjoys nothing more than watching a stylish retriever doing what he loves best.

Several of her Goldens also work as furry therapists at local nursing homes. Each monthly visit proves that friendly paws and wagging tails are the worlds best tonic for the sick and lonely.

Nona studied journalism at Truman State University and began writing to help make the dog community a better place to live. She has written over a dozen dog books, and this is her fifth book about her beloved Golden Retrievers. Her very first Golden book captured the coveted Dog Writers Association of America Best Breed Book of the Year award in 1993.

Her passion for her dogs colors everything she does, especially her books and writing projects.

If she can teach, motivate, or inspire her readers to do it right or better, the world will be a happier, safer place for dogs. And that will make her dog life even more golden than it already is.
