- Barack was born in Honolulu in Hawaii. He is the first President to have been born in Hawaii.
- He attended both Columbia University and Harvard Law School.
- Obama is 185 cm tall.

- Baracks mother was called Stanley Ann Dunham.
- She was born in Wichita, Kansas and was of English Ancestry.
- His fathers name was Barack Obama Sr.
- Obama Sr. was from Kenya and was a senior governmental economist.
- The President has a half-sister on his mothers side of the family called Maya Soetoro-Ng.
- He also has seven half-siblings on his fathers side.
- He is married to his wife Michelle.
- They met whilst working at Sidley Austin, a Chicago law firm.

Growing Up
- Barack was born in Kapiolani Maternity Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii.
- He spent the first six years of his life in Hawaii.
- For the next four years of his life, Obama lived and went to school in Indonesia.
- After this, Barack returned to Hawaii to live with his grandparents.
- When he had graduated from high school, Obama moved to Los Angeles to attend College.
- He later transferred to Columbia University, moving to New York City.
- Here he majored in political science, with a specialty in international relations.
- After graduating in 1983, Mr Obama became a director of the Developing Communities Project and worked as a community organizer until 1988.
- Later in that year, he enrolled at Harvard Law School and graduated in 1991.
- During his time at Harvard, Obama was elected as president of the Harvard Law Review - the fact that he was the first black president of this magazine gained him national media attention.
A Man of the People
- Whilst growing up, Obama preferred to be known as Barry.
- He is a skilled Basketball player.
- In fact, at high school he was so good he known as OBomber!
- He smoked for many years, but finally managed to give up in 2010.
- When discussing his parents, Obama has said: My father looked nothing like the people around me - that he was black as pitch, my mother white as milk - barely registered in my mind. A view that many could learn from.

Early Career
- Obama spent two years as a Visiting Law and Government Fellow at the University of Chicago Law School.
- Then, in 1992, he went on to become a lecturer in constitutional law - a position he held for 12 years.
- In 1997 he became a State Senator for Illinois, a position he held until 2004.
- During his time in office, he helped reform healthcare laws, and sponsored a law which assisted those on low incomes.
- He also supported reforms designed to assist the underprivileged in areas such as regulating payday loans and predatory mortgage lending practices.
- In 2003, Obama announced his candidacy for the US Senate.
- He gained a large amount of support from his anti-war stance, opposing George W Bushs invasion of Iraq.
- Despite being up against fourteen other candidates, Obama won the 2004 primaries with a landslide victory.
- In November 2004, Obama won the senators position in the general election with a huge 70% of the vote.
- On the 3 rd of January 2005, Barack Obama was sworn in as senator.
Key Achievements - Part 1
Here are some key achievements from Obamas time as President:
- In 2010, Obama signed the Affordable Care Act, creating universal health insurance and benefiting 32 million of the least privileged Americans.
- Also on the subject of healthcare, Obama has given the FDA the power to regulate tobacco, forcing tobacco companies to disclose all ingredients, display much larger health warnings, and banning them from incorrectly labelling some tobacco products as light.
- In 2011 he eliminated global terrorist Osama Bin Laden by ordering a special forces raid of a compound in Pakistan.
- Obama brought the military firmly into the 21 st Century by allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly in the forces.
- After the practices of Wall Street financiers caused the global financial crisis, Obama signed legislation (the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act 2010) to ensure things couldnt get so disastrously wrong in the future.
- Understanding the tensions in Egypt, Obama urged President Mubarak of Egypt to resign. When Mubarak was overthrown, Obamas concern proved correct, and America were seen as being on the correct moral side of the Arab Spring.
