- David was born on the 13 th October 1980.
- This makes him a Libra.
- Libras are traditionally diplomatic and peaceful - not a great description of David when hes in the ring!
- David was born in Bermondsey, London.
- He is 6 foot 3 inches tall - thats 191cm.
- His reach is 78 inches (198cm).
- His full name is David Deron Haye.
- He is known to his fans as the Hayemaker.
- David went to Bacons College in South East London.
- His idol is the worlds favourite boxer - Muhammad Ali.
Boxing Career - Part 1
- David first started boxing at Lambeths Fitzroy Lodge Boxing Club.
- At the age of just 18, he took part in the World Amateur Boxing Championships in Texas as a light heavyweight.
- However he was beaten by Michael Simms, meaning an early exit and flight back home.
- Two years later he took part in the championships again - this time in Belfast - and reached the final where he lost to Odlanier Solis.
- In December 2002, David turned Pro and at the young age of 22 knocked out Tony Booth. It took him just two rounds.
- 2003 saw David take part in seven bouts at cruiserweight level, every single one of which he won by knocking out his opponent.
- In 2005, David impressed everyone with his strength and power. He won against Valery Semishkur with a TKO in the first round, and gained the EBU cruiserweight belt by knocking out Alexander Gurov in all of 45 seconds.
- His world-class credentials were confirmed in 2007 when he fought Jean-Marc Mormeck for the WBA, WBC and The Ring cruiserweight belts. Although he hit the deck in the fourth round of this fight, he managed to steady himself, get back up and went on to knock out his opponent in the seventh round.
- In 2008, David added the WBO cruiserweight belt to his accolades, defeating Enzo Maccarinelli in the second round of their fight, billed as the biggest all-British event since Chris Eubank vs Nigel Benn.
- Davids training camp is in Northern Cyprus, and he has worn the flag of this part of the country on his shorts in the past.
Family and Friends
- David is of mixed heritage with an English mother and Jamaican father.
- His mother is called Jane.
- And his father is called Deron - this is where David gets his middle name from.
- He is the middle of three children, with a younger brother named James and an older sister, Louise.
- David now lives in Bexleyheath with his wife, Natasha.
- They have a child together, aptly named Cassius - of course after Cassius Clay.
- David is friends with Scottish Tennis champion Andy Murray and has given him tips on the psychology of sport.
- Apparently, David is mates with club owner Peter Stringfellow and reckons the food at his establishment is the best thing about it!
- Although it is hard to think of them as friends in the traditional sense, David did appear to kiss and make up with Dereck Chisora after their fights - Dereck even said he had a new-found respect for David after his thrashing!

Growing Up
- David says that when he was born, he bad a black eye and a clenched fist...
- His parents, of course, said it made him look like a boxer - how prophetic this would be!
- When other children were learning to read and count from Sesame Street, David was learning to punch and kick from Bruce Lee films.
- David has said that he would train by punching his dads knees - and when the family had guests round, he would punch their knees as well!
- Initially, Davids parents sent him for Karate lessons, however it wasnt long before people realised he was better with his fists than he was with his feet.
- Even when he was just 13 years old, David had an impressive six-pack!
- Whereas most teenage fighters would be winning or losing on points, David tended to win his bouts by knockout - and caught the eye of everyone whilst doing so.
- At the age of 15, David was competing on the international amateur circuit.
- At 18, he was promoted to the English seniors side.
- When England battled Norway, David won with a series of first round knockouts!

- If someone burgles your house, and you knock them out, are you gonna apologize for knocking them out? No youre not, youre gonna stomp on their head, just like any other normal person would.
- I threw about 16 punches in 3 seconds. It was some Bruce Lee speed!
Boxing Career - Part 2
- In November 2009, David took the step up to heavyweight with his fight against Nikolay Valuev.
- The fight was billed as a David vs Goliath match - David weighed in at almost 100 pounds less than his opponent!
- Davids next match was in April 2010 against John Ruiz. He won convincingly and by TKO in the ninth round.
- In November 2010, David fought Audley Harrison in an all-British heavyweight challenge.
- The match was one of the biggest anti-climaxes in boxing for many a year. Haye won easily when the referee stopped the fight a minute from the end of the third round.
- In the fight, Audley Harrison only landed a single jab - evidence that David absolutely dominated the bout.
- In July 2011, David fought Wladimir Klitschko in a unification fight, the biggest boxing event of the decade so far.
