- Lewis was born on the 7 th January 1985.
- This makes him a Capricorn.
- Lewis is 174cm tall.
- His full name is Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton.
- He is named after sprinter Carl Lewis.
- He was born in Stevenage in Hertfordshire.
- Lewis attended the John Henry Newman School; a Catholic school in Stevenage.

- He says his favourite colour is purple.
- Lewis currently lives in a plush pad in the tax-haven of Monaco.
Growing Up
- When he was just ten, Lewis said to the head of McLaren that he wanted to race for them one day - how right he was!
- Lewis actually signed for McLaren with their Young Driver Support Programme.
- Before his teenage years, Lewis enjoyed racing radio-controlled cars. He was so good that he would beat adults and won a number of club championships.
- Lewis was sadly bullied at school when he was very young, but took at Karate so he could defend himself!
- Lewis has three Blue Peter badges - his first appearance on the show was aged just six as a radio-controlled car driver!
- On the show, John Leslie asked him if driving the radio-controlled cars was easy. No, said Lewis.
- When asked what his favourite sport was at school, Lewis said it was football one day, basketball the next and running the day after - he was always changing his mind!
- His first crash in karting was at Rye House during a practice session. Lewis got clipped by another driver and crashed into the tyre wall. His kart was badly damaged - and he walked away with a bleeding nose!
- Lewis has said that if he was not in motorsport he would love to have been in a band - he set up a band when he was younger, and actually still plays the guitar.
- Lewiss first ever car was a mini.
Racing Career - Part 1
- Lewis first started racing in karts when he was just eight years old.
- He started winning championships almost instantly, and worked his way up the ranks.
- In the year 2000, Lewis won the European Championships with maximum points.
- In 2001, he actually raced Michael Schumacher, who had made a brief return to Karting. Michael beat Lewis, coming four places above him!
- After this, Lewis upgraded to Formula Renault - his first foray into racing cars rather than karts.
- In his first season, Lewis finished a respectable fifth in the overall competition.
- The next year he finished third, then the year after that he finally won - without even having to race in the final two events!
- Lewis immediately moved up to racing at Formula Three level, but wasnt initially very successful.
- This changed however in 2005 when he signed for ASM. With them he wiped the board throughout the season, winning 15 out of the 20 races.
- Following this whitewash, Lewis was voted the 24 th best driver in motorsport in 2005 by Autosport magazine.

Friends and Family
- Lewiss mother is called Carmen, but prefers to be known as Brenda which is her middle name.
- His fathers name is Anthony.
- Lewis has two half-sisters, Nicola and Samantha.
- He also has a half-brother called Nicolas.
- Nicolas proves that disability is not a barrier to achieving dreams - despite having cerebral palsy, he races for Total Control Racing, with his debut being in the 2011 Renault Clio Cup.
- Anthony agreed to support Lewis throughout his racing career on the condition Lewis studied hard at school.
- This was a difficult thing to do, as Anthony was at one point made redundant from his job in IT. However he stayed true to his word and often took up to three contracts at a time to continue funding Lewis.
- Lewis started dating Nicole Scherzinger in November 2007.
- She is the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls.
- The song I Think Im in Love by the Pussycat Dolls was written about Lewis by Nicole.
Favourites
- Lewis is a big fan of Arsenal FC.
- Tell him about the honey, mummy - Lewis loves sugar puffs and even puts extra sugar on them.
- Lewis enjoys a bit of singing - his favourite restaurant is called Shanghai Blues, serves Chinese food and has its own private karaoke room.
- Lewis has said this his racing hero is undoubtedly Ayrton Senna.
- He has said in the past that he loves Oasis and 50 Cent.
- He has also expressed a fondness for ragamuffins Chaka Demus and Pliers.
- Lewis really appreciates his fans - he says that they give him strength and inspiration, particularly through the tough times.
- Lewis once said that his favourite book is Every Second Counts, a biography by the cyclist Lance Armstrong. One wonders is Lewis still has this view in the wake of Armstrongs doping scandal.
- Lewis says that his favourite childhood memory is when his brother was born. Aaaah.
- Sharks however are definitely NOT a favourite - his biggest fear is being eaten alive by a Great White.
Racing Career - Part 2
- Lewis joined ASMs sister team ART Grand Prix in his next step up - to GP2 racing.
- He won his first championship in this class!
- After this win, McLaren chose Lewis to take the second driver position in their Formula One team.
- Although this was agreed internally in September of 2006, the announcement was not made until November - this was so it wouldnt be overshadowed by Michael Schumachers retirement.
- In 2007, Lewis set a record for both the most wins (four) and most poles (six) in a debut season.
- In his second season (2008), Lewis won the championship - the youngest driver ever to do so.
