I feel blessed with so many things right now
like the ability to grow in the knowledge of Gods love and the life he calls us to live through him, and the understanding of how to be an overall healthier person. There is so much Ive already learned throughout my journey, and Im grateful to be able to share it all with you in the chapters you are about to read.
There have been numerous people in my life who have taught and encouraged me in my quest to better understand my body.
First, Id like to thank my parents. Theyre the ones who encouraged my love for surfing right from the start. Not only that, but both made it possible to choose healthy foods in my diet and work with some awesome trainers.
Id like to thank my sister-in-law for showing great work ethic and helping me translate my thoughts to paper. Thanks for always seeking the Lord; his love shows in your life! I feel very blessed to work with you and have you as my sister.
Id also like to thank Dustin and Kirby Dillberg and the Dillberg ohana for educating and encouraging me so much throughout the years. Dustin, your expertise is RAD. Let the learning journey continue!
To my husband, Adam: Thanks for your willingness to always try my delicious (and sometimes crazy!) healthy recipes and for all of the fun weve had so far in the kitchen. Mahalo for running the deep sand beaches and killer hills with the dogs and me. But most of all, thank you for loving me like Jesus loves me.

TABLE OF CONTENTS
Ask yourself this, Do I really want to give this whole healthy thing a go? Because when it comes down to it, its a decision only you can make. Trust me, Ive learned that the hard way.

P icture yourself slipping into the water, the waves brushing against your legs. Everything thats going on in your life, all your worries and stress, just melt away as you step up on that board and glide across the waters surface. Catching the best wave you can find, with each wave unique from the wave before. No matter how good or bad a session you might have, youre having fun doing what you love, enjoying Gods beautiful creation and just being yourself every single day. This is why I love surfing.
I began catching waves when I was a toddler. I was literally learning to surf and walk at the same time. I guess growing up in a house of ocean lovers will do that to you. Without a doubt, one of the first things surfing taught me was dedication.
Lets start with my parents. If I didnt have dedicated parents willing to sacrifice so much to take me to the beach every day (and not just because they wanted to zap the energy out of me and my brothers, Timmy and Noah, so wed be mellow at night, although I like to joke that was part of it), I wouldnt have gotten to where I am now.
I would go to surf competitions just about every other weekend. Even the little keiki surf contests my parents signed me up for when I was five showed me the importance of sticking to something you love. And I wouldnt let anything strip me of that dedication, not even losing my left arm to a fourteen-foot tiger shark when I was thirteen.
As you might have noticed, Im missing a piece of my body (hello, stating the obvious!). But its not a big deal, really. And even though I look different than most people, one arm is the normal me; its become a part of who I am. And the great thing is, Im loved by God, one arm and all.
If youre not familiar with my story, heres what happened: On October 31, 2003, a shark attacked me while I was surfing off the north shore of Kauai. I lost over 60 percent of my blood and almost lost my life.
