DEDICATION
I want to dedicate this book to my family, but mostly to Almighty God, who has paved the way for me and made all this possible. He has blessed me beyond my dreams, and I want to honor Him and give Him all the glory for the talents and opportunities He has given me throughout my life. Without God, I would not be able to share the positive thoughts on life that I have shared in this book. He is so awesome! My prayer is that many lives will be touched by my thoughts.
Delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Psalms 37:4.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
I would like to thank my family and friends who have so lovingly supported me during the writing of this book. I want to give a special thanks to my husband, Terry, for putting up with all of the times I had to give more attention to creating my designs than to our marriage, and to thank him for all the positive and motivating tips I have learned from him over the years through listening to his Yes You Can motivational seminars. A special thanks goes to my daughter, Jamie Vaduva, for being my personal assistant, artist, model and right-hand man, so to speak. Without their support, this book would not have been possible. I also want to thank my sisters, Judy Drewett and Donna Howard, who cheered me on each step of the way and overlooked the times I wasn't my best because of all the pressures and deadlines.
I cannot forget to mention all of the wonderful friends who tested the patterns in this book, giving me peace of mind. I just cannot thank them enough. They helped to keep me sane and made the whole process smoother. A special thank you to: Alyssa Denen, Aminta Moses, Yvonne Bowser, Jackie Brown, Judy Drewett, Anca Hall, Karol Holloway, Pam Frye, Becky Wooly, Judy Morrison, Brandy Arner, Annette Stewart, Nova Carman, Lisa Davis, Adrienne Clark, Pat Tansky, Melody Kelly and Janice Tobe. I must also give a big thank you to Cindy Gillispie, who patiently walked me through the process of putting the final manuscript together before my deadline. I feel indebted to all these wonderful people.
I'd like to acknowledge the models who were photographed for this book: Nicole Short, Shelley Krueger, Kylie Krueger, Abby Olson, Natasha Quaintance, Hannah Miller and Jamie, Jade and Sophia Vaduva. They made my designs look wonderful! I must also thank world-famous Photography by JD's Dave, Jean and JD Wacker for the exceptional job they did with the photographs.
And last but not least, I want to thank my editor, Erica Swanson, Candy Wiza, Rachael Knier, and the entire staff at Krause Publications for believing in me and helping to make this book become a reality.
INTRODUCTION
If you are a crochet fanatic like me, you know that this is an exciting time for crocheting. Statistics from the Crochet Guild Of America (CGOA) say that there are now more crocheters than knitters in the United States. Crochet is everywhere! I learned to knit years ago, and I love the look of knitting, but crocheting is my passion. Every person I have interviewed who knows how to knit and crochet says that crocheting is faster and more fun. So move over, knitters! We will no longer take a back seat! The world might as well face it crochet is here to stay.
Crocheting is amazingly easy, and if you are patient enough to learn how to hold the hook and yarn, you can create almost anything. I have taught many people to crochet, and most are thrilled at how easy it is. You'll be amazed at what you can do. All it takes is a couple of hours to practice the basic stitches before you can get your project started. After she learned to crochet, my daughter-in-law, a long-time knitter, literally jumped up and down, saying, Why didn't you teach me this a long time ago? This is so much fun!
For this book, I have created more than 50 fabulous and easy-to-crochet projects that you'll be proud to wear. Some patterns even go up to size 3x! You'll be inspired to share your work with others, and you'll find many ideas to get started. All it takes is desire and believing in yourself.
I am also excited to share positive and encouraging tips on life that I hope will be meaningful to you and your family. Sometimes life is fun, just like crocheting, but sometimes life can be very hard (like some crochet). Some of the tips are from my husband Terry, who travels all over the country giving positive-thinking seminars. We have been married for 36 years, and his enthusiasm has rubbed off on me! I hope you'll want to share these tips that mean so much to me with your friends and loved ones.
So what are you waiting for? Get that crochet hook and yarn out, and let's get started!
