A vadhoota Nadananda once told me When man becomes mad, he becomes a saint. When saint becomes mad, he becomes an Avadhoota . When Avadhoota becomes mad, he becomes Bhagavan (God). Beings reveling in their non-existence are Avadhootas . They are totally occupied inside, so much so that the outside world with its materials and flavours carries no meaning to them. It does not exist for them. Regular human beings for whom the outside world is everything will find it difficult to understand such an existence.
We live in an atomic universe. It is a universe made of particles. They are energy manifested into forms which also means duality or multiplicity. This is the cause of all our delusions. An Avadhoota is rooted in the energy beyond the matter within and outside of him. He is never deluded with terrestrial existence.
We float in the river of manifested existence. May the One who is the cause of the atom as well as the inner and outer universe guide us, lead us and protect us. May the One who is beyond all dualities dissolve us too. May our lives be full and complete through the awareness and experience of non-dual perfection. May the power (Shakthi ) of will, knowledge and action maintain us constant and make our lives complete. May the greatest power (Maha Shakthi ) awaken in us and melt us into the ocean of abundance and supreme bliss.
The fundamental shift in awareness expresses itself with one question Who AM I? and it subsequently flows through further questions such as What am I and Why be I? This is the story of every seeker. A moment in time forces the naturally extroverted being to look within and ask this question into the seeming darkness of the unknowable. The I AM dissolves into Who Am I? Ever since time created the thinking man on earth, this question has remained in the canvas of existence of every evolved being. WHO AM I? This eventually evolves into the fundamental question Why Am I? which leads to dimensional destruction. Dimensional destruction leads to freedom from form, binding identifications and takes one to ultimate liberation.
This question, at some point in time in the life of everyone, naturally evolves and becomes a burning quest. Nothing else in life matters except a convincing answer in the form of a compelling experience to satiate this quest. The realization that nothing that I consider as I AM has anything to do with the real ME shifts the awareness to a totally different level. This inner momentum also urges man to shed the boundaries of his mind and move from the known to the unknowable which mind cannot perceive. He is forced to seek beyond the mind with the full understanding of the limitation of the substratum called mind. Delusions and misconceptions walk the path as inevitable companions. They serve as tests as well as traps. Many fall prey to it and slip down to where they started from. Domination of mind through fears and doubts are one of the biggest hurdles. Expectations are another. Many also get trapped in powers that inevitably happen when gross melts into subtle spontaneously. It takes a lot of maturity, clarity and steadfast consistency over destination to arrive at the final truth. It may take lifetimes to reach this final destination. What may seem as great accomplishment of an incarnation in one lifetime often contains the invisible consistent efforts to attain truth, running through many past lifetimes. Awareness is the only investment that stays through incarnations without depreciation. Hence awareness is the only investment that is truly worth in a lifetime.
Life evolved through various incarnations that ran through various species on earth. It finally landed a human existence. The thirsty, hungry and most vulnerable existence in the whole jungle of multiple species! The suffering of severe identity crisis of a thinking man versus the speeding time, who like to believe that they are time riders and end up realising that the time has been riding their incarnation beyond any compromises on ownerships. This is the identity crisis of delusional supremacy that leads to the thought process of Man Versus Nature instead of Man in nature! This non-understanding further leads man to his eventual alienation and subsequent search for his real home. We all are searching. We all are usually searching outside. Seldom destiny brings us home into ourselves. Most of the times, we end our search in illusions and corresponding disappointments. Most of us do not know what we are looking for and hence do not know where to look.
Here we have the true story of an Avadhoota , a man who went through his physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual boundaries to climb to the Everest of awareness that only a few could effectively achieve. We have to discard a lot to gain somewhat. It is my deepest privilege and honour to write a foreword to this great work which I am sure that time would nurture in its lap as a guiding light much more than just a book of purpose to the true seekers of truth, often seeking in darkness not knowing what they are seeking and where to seek.
This is the story of you and me. This story will remind us about ourselves. Avadhoota Nadananda travelled through the same terrains of happiness, sorrows, accolades and betrayals just like any of us. He did not stop. He did not rest. He did not procrastinate or give up his efforts disheartened by the hardships associated with a pure spiritual journey. But, he travelled beyond his own boundaries. He touched the realms of existence that made him an
