Stephen L. Pevar is Regional Counsel for the Mountain States Office of the American Civil Liberties Union, a position he has held since 1976. He is also staff counsel to the ACLU's Indian Rights Committee. In addition, Mr. Pevar is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Denver School of Law, where he teaches a course entitled Indian Law. From 1971 through 1974 Mr. Pevar was a Legal Services attorney on the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation in South Dakota. He has litigated many Indian rights cases. Mr. Pevar graduated from Princeton University in 1968 and from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1971.
