The Authors
Thomas Hyclak received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Notre Dame in 1976. He served as Assistant Professor of Economics at Ball State University before joining Lehigh University in 1979. He is currently Professor of Economics at Lehigh. Professor Hyclak has published articles on regional labor markets, the economic effects of trade unions and earnings differentials in the Review of Economics and Statistics, the Industrial and Labor Relations Review, the Journal of Regional Science and Regional Studies, among others. He is the co-editor of Canada at the Crossroads (JAI Press 1988) and Economic Aspects of Regional Trading Arrangements (New York University Press 1989).
Geraint Johnes received his Ph.D. in economics from Lancaster University in 1987. He has been lecturer in Economics at Lancaster University since 1982 and Visiting Professor of Economics at Lehigh University on a number of occasions. Dr. Johnes has published articles on regional economics, public finance, the economics of education and labor economics in the Economic Journal, Oxford Economic Papers, Regional Studies and the Journal of Regional Science, among others. He is the author of Economics for Managers (Prentice Hall 1990) and The Economics of Education (MacMillan 1993). He has been editor of the International Journal of Manpower and will be the editor of the new journal, Education Economics, beginning in 1993.
