| The mandate of Legacies Shared is broad, as we plan to make available parts of our "legacy" of historical memories that have been overlooked or have disappeared. Each volume contains an introduction appropriate to the subject, which might be a work of history, a memoir, collections of letters, photographs, art work, maps or recipes, works of fiction or poetry, or sets of archival documents. Oral history will also have a place in the series. |

| No one can write a book all alone. Numerous individuals played an important part in the whole process. I began my research into the history of the Italian community of Calgary while working on the Peoples of Southern Alberta Oral History Project, a joint venture between the University of Calgary and the Glenbow Museum. I continued that research as a graduate student at the University of Calgary. I am indebted to my graduate thesis supervisor, Dr. Herman Ganzevoort, for his constant support, encouragement and advice during those years.
