ABOUT THE SERIES
In the last decade of the twentieth century, as the global community faces a growing array of complex and interrelated social problems, public policymakers increasingly will turn to scholars and practitioners for guidance. To chronicle and disseminate the substance of the compelling discussions that will result, the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center for the Social Sciences at Dartmouth College, in collaboration with University Press of New England, has inaugurated this series of books.
Rockefeller Series books will be disparate in content but united in a common approach: presenting ways in which social scientific expertise is brought to bear on public policy issues of current or historic importance. The specific topics addressed will be as diverse as were the interests and work of US. Vice-President Nelson A. Rockefeller, which included state and local government, the environment, Third World economic development, publicly funded art, racism and intergroup conflict, and the functioning of communities. Authors will assess historical or existing policies, as well as the need for new or adjusted policies, in a search for viable solutions to pressing social, political, and economic problems.
